Geocache Description:

This two-stage cache challenges your skills and offers a local history lesson on the edge of Oak Brook Mall in a park-like setting.

Mammoth Spring burst forth in 1861 with so much noise the locals thought the Confederates were coming. It looks much different now than it did in the 1880 photo below. More old photos and the surprising history of this Spring at (visit link) .

The bronze plaque at the given coordinates marks the site, but is not nearly so obvious as the Historical Marker sign along the road. Find the plaque first, then use the text on it to decode the cache coordinates. For example, at [text line 2, text column 50] you will find the digit "1".

Cache coordinates:
N 41° 51.2[Line 6,Column 38][Line 5,Column 53]
W 87° 56.[Line 5, Column 56][Line 4,Column 9]2

Only a small log book fits in the magnetic keycase. Please take your own pencil and write small to record your visit.
