Geocache Description:

****Cache has been replaced on 07/30/03, Thanks to Jeff Scism***** There is a parking area about 100 yards south of Beaumont Ave. on the west side of San Timoteo Canyon Rd. The cache is located here, it is a small black plastic container with room for small items. No bushwacking or climbing required.

In 1864, Nicholas Earp wrote this letter to a friend in Iowa. "I succeeded in renting a fine farm the third day after I got to San Bernardino and on the 25th day moved out to it, about ten miles from San Bernardino. It has ten acres in peach and apple orchard, and thirty five acres in grapes. Oh, don't I wish you and many others of my friends were here to help me eat apples, peaches, grapes this fall and drink wine. We have lettuce and cabbage that was growing here when we came. We have peas and onions large enough to eat from our own planting. This is the finest climate in the world..." The Earps moved here in 1864, when Wyatt was 13 years old. When he was 15 years old, he was a stagecoach driver for the Banning stage that ran from San Bernardino to Los Angeles. The family moved on to Missouri in 1868. From the cache location, the farm was located west, where the orange grove is. This is from a book titled "Historic San Timoteo Canyon-A Pictorial Tour, Myths, and Legends" by Peggy Christian. Sam
