Have you found the Santeetlah Aqueduct cache and wondered where that pipe ends up? This cache is hidden in view of the old powerhouse that generates electricity from water brought from Santeetlah Dam. According to a friend who once worked for Alcoa, the powerhouse was built on Cheoah lake in order to take advantage of the potential energy from falling water two times, without requiring construction of a second dam on the Cheoah River. The aqueduct was built to carry water northward from the dam to this remote stretch of Cheoah lake, where it generates electricity for use in Tennessee.
With the southern boundary of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park being several hundred feet north of the lakeshore here and much closer in other places, there are very few places suitable to hide a cache around here. With all the caches in the area that require long hikes, I felt it was time for one more cache that didn't require a long trip on foot. The reward for this cache is not a hike, but a drive down a scenic stretch of highway in a very remote section of western North Carolina. The cache is hidden at the overlook that looks out across the lake at the powerhouse. It is a small, well hidden micro, but shouldn't be too hard to find with the clue if you need it. Despite the surrounding terrain, coordinates were taken with 12 feet accuracy over several minutes.
