Silverstone Circuit No.2 - BECKETTS Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Simply Paul: Collected in today. A bit of a walk down memory lane as the logbook is the original from April 2004. A lot of familiar ol' names, some of whom are no longer with us. Time for this cache to join them in the great beyond. Thanks for all the finds.

Beautiful day to be out on my bike, exploring the area as I've not been out this way since... 2008? Never revisited this cache, despite being close a few times. Nice to be back in Northamptonshire again too [;)]

Anyway, sad to see it go but the time is right. Lots of nettles at GZ assured me no one else had looked for this cache for quite some time so I was able to handle it without too much fear.
Stay safe, take care and wash your hands!

Geocache Description:

The thunder of engines! The screech of tortured tyre rubber! The roar of the crowd! The smell of petrol in the morning! This cache brings you them all, thanks to 3.194 miles of Silverstone Circuit.

Silverstone Circuit No.2 - BECKETTS (Bucks/Northants border)

Silverstone Circuit Map.This was 2/3 of a short series of caches that take you around the world famous Silverstone Race Track, which straddles the Bucks/Northants border. After the success of 'SpeedCaching' at my HAMPDEN'S MONUMENT cache (the record is around 20 seconds from car to logbook!) I thought it might be fun to do something similar, but on a larger scale. Where better than a motorsport circuit? The added bonus of this cache series is that you can watch the action on the track for free!

I suggest you reach this cache from Silverstone Circuit No. 1 - STOWE CORNER at N52° 03.731 / W001° 01.050 or Silverstone Circuit No.3 - COPSE at N52° 04.739 / W001° 00.500.

This Cache is located at:
N52° 04.302 / W001° 00.371.

To get there, use the footpaths and bridleways provided. They're not always very clear, so a copy of OS Landranger Map 152 might be useful. I also suggest you bring binoculars and/or a camera to get you closer to the action. Plus at the cache location there's the possibility of nettles, so gloves and long trousers may be wise too. It's not necessary to enter any part of the Silverstone site to complete these caches, although there are many points where this is possible. Motorsport is dangerous; Don't make a Grand Prix of yourself, play safe!

It's not required to log this cache, but if you can please include your Sector Time for this cache. That's how long it took to get to it from SC1, or from SC3 if doing them in reverse order. A stopwatch or sw feature on a digital watch is ideal for measuring this. I hope that makes sense!

Happy, and speedy hunting!

The cache originally contained:
1x Blank 90 minute Tape.
1x Yo-yo.
1x 'Top Gear' keyring.
2x Flyers for places of local interest.
Plus the usual: Cache notice, log book, pencil and pen.

Things to enjoy while searching for this cache:
Bridging the gap. There are good views of this famous Silverstone landmark. If you can see this sign you are close to the cache. I looked for Zebras and big cats, but I couldnt see any. Sorry. You may well pass the Rally Sprint course.

While you're in the area I suggest you try the other two caches in this series, plus The Hornets The Church in the Fields cache or The Secret Garden by Dan and Pid. Both are within short driving distance.

A small experiment - Please feel free to rate your visit to this cache out of ten in your log - or drop it an FP point?
