This cache has been archived.

MadMin: As there's been no action taken with this cache for a significant amount of time, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact me at ma.reviewer@gmail.com and if it meets the guidelines, I'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

A multi-cache involving stages hidden in Wayland, Massachusetts and Wayland, Michigan.

How to find the final cache:

  • Travel to N 42° 22.256 W 071° 22.116 and find the hidden coordinates. These are the coordinates for the final stage of a geocache (GCKDBR) hidden in Wayland, Michigan.
  • Post a note here on the Massachusetts page stating, "Found the final coordinates for Michigan cache. Please email me if you need them."
  • Check the Michigan cache page (GCKDBR) and send an e-mail to the most recent cache logger - "note" or "found it(smily)" - and request the final coordinates. To send email to another geocacher, click their name in the logs and follow their profile.
  • Keep a record of the final Michigan coordinates (or email correspondence) for future reference.
  • DO NOT PARK AT THE TRAILHEAD for the final Massachusetts stage. Park at the athletic field and walk back to the "triangle" intersection. Hopefully, this location will be apparent when you receive the final coordinates.
  • Beware the "Field of Ferns"! If you find yourself zeroing in on a flat area filled with ferns, suspend your search and check the coordinates with another cacher (either another Michigan cacher or a Massachusetts finder who has saved the final coordinates).

The initial Wayland cache stage is in the North Cemetery, on Route 27, near the site of the original town center. You can drive into the cemetery or park across the street in the Cow Common conservation area.

In the older portion of this interesting and well maintained cemetery, close to Route 27, there are some ornate slate headstones dating back to the 1700's. You'll find many last names that have become local places names, such as Maynard, Rice, Parmenter, Heard, Glezen, and Damon. Thirty-five of the Minutemen who marched from Wayland (at the time Sudbury) to Concord on April 19, 1775 are buried here. For more information about North Cemetery, see the Wayland town website.

Cache stages
Stage 1 : small (smaller than your hand)
Stage 2 : one-gallon container with 4" diameter opening

All locationless caches were archived at the beginning of 2006, but the Lexington Alarm! cache lists the graves of many of the original Minutemen. Look for the flags with the cast-iron SAR markers.

This cache was inspired by the British American Transatlantic Cache (GC4404).
