Geocache Description:

San Antonio's 2006 CITO and Park Beautification Event!

Update: 04/23/06

Thank you everyone for all your hard work!

Come help us, with the support of San Antonio's Park Department and public volunteers, clean up and beautify one of San Antonio's Parks. This is San Antonio's participation in "International Cache In Trash Out Day 2006" .

Update: 04/12/06
There will be a group of volunteers from Toyota in the park the same day, so we will be cleaning the southern part of the park. The coordinates have been updated to show the location of the south entrance.

WARNING: 04/12/06
Met with the park's managers today, and was made aware that there is an overgrowth of poison ivy in the park. Those who react to poison ivy are recommend to take protective measures. Bring a long sleeve shirt, do not wear shorts, and bring any medication you might need if you do come into contact with poison ivy.

Location:
Medina River Natural Area
15890 Highway 16 South
4.5 miles south of Loop 410

Date/Time:
April 22, 2006
8am - 1pm

Our Goal:
Our goal is to have fun while doing something good for the community. Although we will only be at one of the city's parks, it makes a big difference, and is greatly appreciated by everyone.

Project Details:
San Antonio Parks Department will provide the tools and supplies and provide technical support during this project. Tasks may include painting, trash pick up, tree/brush trimming, spreading bark mulch or any labor intensive task that may be unique for the particular park. Be prepared to get dirty, and bring some work gloves. It's recommended to wear pants (not shorts), and open toe shoes will not be allowed.

Volunteer Forms:
All volunteers must sign a "Release and Indemnification / Photo Release Form". You can print the form to fill out and bring with you, or you can fill one out when you get to the park.

Geocoins:
We have ordered some 2006 CITO Geocions, and will allow everyone who attends to log the coins. There will also be some sort of contest where the winner gets an unactivated 2006 CITO Geocoin.

Contest:
1. Geocoin Contest: We were originally going to have the person who collects the most trash win the coin, but we have decided that it wold be unfair to those who are not physically able to collect as much trash as others, So there will be a drawing for the coin. Sign in upon arrival to receive a name tag with a number that will be used for the drawing.

Update: 04/23/06
Winner: The 2006 CITO Geocoin was awarded to Andrew, of Team Red Fox, as a Purple Heart after taking a nail through the foot.

2. CITO Containers Contest: Penny and Chris (cpnowak) were upset that they had to work the day of the event, but have donated some CITO Containers for the event. Inside one of the containers will be a mark indicating who wins the ready to hide ammo can container also donated by cpnowak. The CITO Containers will be handed out with the name tags when you sign in. Thank you Penny and Chris for your donation.

Update: 04/23/06
Winner: The "ready to hide" ammo box was won by Chris, of G-Squad, who already has a hiding spot in mind.

3. Jana's "Anthony or Lynn?" contest: Jana (cybercat) has posted a poll in the SATXGeocachers Yahoo Group where you can vote, or submit your own story about who will hit 1000 finds first, AnthonyV or Ms.Teddybear. Read Jana's Message and place your vote in Jana's Poll. The winner will receive a prize from Jana at the event!

Update: 04/23/06
Winner: Cpnowak almost won this one, but AnthonyV out did them by posting a "Nude Cacher Photo" at his 1000th find on Sunday. Jana will award AnthonyV some BEER!

Food/Drinks:
Primary Plan: The group from Toyota will be having a BBQ lunch, and if they allow us, we might be able to have lunch with them. We are keeping the reservations at Bill Miller so we can still have lunch there if Toyota says no.
