The coordinates for the event is for the parking area. the trailheads around both ponds are off this parking lot. This event page is a work in progress, so throw it on your watchlist and look for updates! Right now, if there is any interest, we're talking about setting up a grill for food during the event or looking at local restaurants for a meeting place AFTER the event. If/when you RSVP, please throw your thoughts down in your note!

CITO event at Nickerson State Park in Brewster, MA. Come help clean up one of our playing fields and help out the state we live in.
Groundspeak is again sponsoring International Cache In Trash Out Day. This year is their fourth annual event. Together, we can make an enormous positive impact with just a little joint effort. Cache In Trash Out Day is an opportunity for geocachers to help clean up the parks and other cache-friendly places throughout the world. Through our volunteer efforts, we help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources.
Nickerson's 1900 acres offers more than 420 campsites, including yurt camping, an amphitheater, eight miles of roads, hiking trails, an eight mile bike path that connects to the 25 mile Cape Cod Rail Trail, and ponds stocked year-round with trout. Cape Cod Bay is within walking or bicycling distance. You can swim and canoe at Flax Pond; birdwatch or catch-and-release fish at Higgins Pond, or participate in the many seasonal interpretive and recreational programs offered by park staff.
For this CITO we will be breaking up into two or three groups (depending on the number of people we have) to hit three different areas of the park. There will be two groups to take the trail around big cliff pond and make sure the trail is clear of any fallen branches or trash and the trail around little cliff pond to do the same. Also, if we have enough people, we may have a third group to clean up around the parking area and to help cart back whatever the two groups on the trails can bag as trash. All equipment will be provided by the park - the only thing you might want to bring are work gloves, if you desire, and a good attitude!
Please post a note if you can attend so that i can get a solid count of volunteers. Also, if anyone is interested, we can put together a group order for CITO t-shirts to be handed out at the event. Directions from off cape: travel to the Sagamore Bridge, then Rte. 6 to exit 12 in Orleans, turn left off the ramp onto Rte. 6A West towards Brewster. Continue for about 2 miles. Park Entrance is on left.
