Geocache Description:

Adventurous Night Cache

This is a three stage cache. Stage 1 will involve a little research and some walking round, stage 2 is an interesting leg that can only be done in pitch darkness. Keep your nerve to get to stage 3 which also must be done in complete darkness and leads to the final cache.

Start to finish will take at least 2 hours. During organising this cache we saw a leash of 7 deer, foxes and badgers so don't worry about strange sounds in the dark! Please heed the advice given for each stage carefully.

Stage 1
The co-ordinates given take you to the entrance of a public building that is closed on a Monday and Sunday. Go to section 942.396 and retrieve the publication by THOMAS that has ISBN 086023 1984. Photo, “Possibly a former farm house?” This location is within half a mile of where you are and is close to the rear of a school, go find it.

There are how many letters on the date plaque, A, and the stained glass window above the side door has numbers B and C on it.

Stage 2
Your starting point is N 51.(A-C) (2xA). (B-(A-C)) (A-3C) C W002. (A+C) (2xA) (A+C) (A+3C) (B-C)
THERE IS NO PARKING BY THE START POINT, regardless of what your map may show. You will need to find somewhere nearby, there is a good space on the corner by the main road.

You will need a bright torch and spare batteries, plus a copy of an OS map section covering the area (DONT FORGET THIS!). It is just possible with a mini maglite but you will loose your nerve or way for certain. The brighter the better. If you have the ability to record tracks on your GPSR it is strongly recommended that you activate this feature to enable you to track back if necessary, it is possible to get hopelessly lost otherwise.
Lastly it will be safer to complete this cache with someone else, plus it is more fun. It may be an adventure for the younger cacher as well.

At the start point look to the right and note the two stone features. Follow the path on and shine your torch ahead. It is VITAL that you use the correct technique to light your way. You MUST hold your torch next to your head at eye level so the light reflects back to the retina. If you don't the markers will not be effective and you will get lost. Before you get to the first gate on the left from the start point use your torch to find the first marker and see what you will be looking for further on. If you don’t see this first marker don’t bother continuing. If you do see it carry on up the gully with its infrequent markers. You will eventually get to a double/triple marker on the right, bear off left here and see the two bigger brothers of the earlier stone features. Follow the markers to the second stage cache, again deviating when you see a double marker, and note the instructions.

You now have the choice; direct approach or retrace steps! Can you HOLD YOUR NERVE?

Stage 3
When you reach the entrance gate to this stage follow the same technique to reach the final cache. Ensure you rehide it well, things look different at night, don’t they?

It would be interesting for you to log how long the cache took you and at what time you reached the final goal.

UK RATING:This cache was voted No 1 in the UK over a period of time We hope you enjoy it
