Geocache Description:

Walkabout 1 is hidden on the top of the East scarp of the South Downs above Kingston, near Lewes.

I am sure that we have all done it at one time or another; seen a great view or found a terrific hiding place and thought "This is a great place for a cache."

Well, we are now prepared for such an occasion! We have prefabricated a series of micro-caches, each with a log-book, pencil, cache-note and First, Second and Third to Find certificates. When we are out and find a good hiding spot, or a lovely view, we will leave a cache, take the co-ordinates and submit it when we get home!

You can walk to this cache from the Newmarket Inn on the A27, from Lewes (Juggs Road), from Kingston or from 'The Wick' - the local name for the Woodingdean to Falmer road.

From the Cache you can walk west along the top of the northern scarp soaking in the views. If you go far enough you will end up in Newmarket Plantation (Tigers in the Woods.) Head south from the cache, and you can walk along the very edge of the eastern scarp, which plunges away to the valley below. The views overlook Kingston, Lewes, Caburn and Firle Beacon. With the aid of binoculars you can even see the Beacon on Mount Harry and to the left, Cuckoo Bottom. Walk far enough south and you will find East Meets West and Tanks a Lot for the Cache. A detour to the west on the way takes you to Vanished Village.
