RACCOON CREEK FOREST TRAIL WEST Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

pafarmboy: Well, it’s been a good run, but I’ve decided to archive caches as they come up muggled, missing, or in need of maintenance. When 4 different persons/groups of people come up empty on 4 different hides, something needs to change. The reality is I spend more time checking on caches than finding them nowadays.

I will continue to maintain Raccoon Loop and the 2 Bond caches if they break down, but the rest are going into the mothballs as soon as there is an issue. The enthusiasm and energy just isn’t there anymore. If you would like to “adopt” the 2 James Bond caches that have never seen the light of day, I have all of the framework ideas, cache spots, Q gadgets and most of the other materials and containers. They have already been approved by the DNCR too. I’d hate to see ‘em just waste away so I’d be more than happy to trek out there with you and run through everything I’ve come up with. Heck, I’d LOVE to be able to find the dang things instead of placing them. Contact me and we’ll go for a walk……

Finally, to all of you that have favorited my caches, written a great log, or have word of mouthed that my neck of the woods is worth the trip, I thank you. It is much appreciated and truly means a lot.

Geocache Description:

This cache will expire on July 3rd, 2012

This is one of a series of 6 caches I am placing in Raccoon Creek State Park. I am taking over for the Elves by placing caches in some of the trails/places they didn't hit with their great, but unfortunately expired, caches. In each of the six final caches, there will be partial coords for a 7th Raccoon Creek mystery cache. Do all 6 and get a bonus 7th!

The caches in the park needed to find the Mystery cache are as follows:

  1. SPRING MEMORIES(GCVG32): gpx file
  2. RACCOON CREEK KINGS CREEK CEMETERY AND....(GCWK2C): gpx file
  3. RACCOON CREEK FOREST TRAIL WEST (GCWK1Y): gpx file
  4. RACCOON CREEK LAKE TRAIL (GCWK11): gpx file
  5. RACCOON CREEK NICHOL ROAD IN&OUT (GCWMB7): gpx file
  6. RACCOON CREEK HERITAGE TRAIL WEST (GCWT12): gpx file

The RACCOON CREEK MYSTERY CACHE is GCWT13: gpx file

Would like to have a nice history lesson for these caches, but we'll just have to settle for a nice hike in the woods.

This is a multi-stage cache with 3 stages. It progresses from a micro to a small to a regular cache final, so there is a little bit of something for everyone on this one.

This one can be started from the same spot you begin the RACCOON CREEK LAKE TRAIL cache or you can park at the park office. If you park at the office, you will need to walk up the hill on Rt. 18 until you see the trailhead for the Forest Trail.

The coords above are for the first cache. It is a micro that probably qualifies as a nano. Guess Questmaster won't be showing up for this one. It will give you the coords for stage 2. Please be careful and, obviously, don't lose it. Please note that I know a micro in the woods can be extremely frustrating even with dead-on coordinates. Using the hints provided will probably be of more use than the GPS when you are close.

The second and final stages will take you on a semi-loop. Please don't try and bushwhack to the last stage. Stay on the trails and you will have a much easier time. I have included a link to a trail map that may help: GPX FILE

The final is a .50 ammo can. As a side note, my youngest son wanted to put the swag in this one, so he hopes you appreciate his handiwork.

After you find the final, continue down the obvious "trail" to the bottom of the hill and hang a left onto the main "trail."

Good luck and check out the others located in the park as well.

***AS OF 12/17/06, I HAVE BECOME AN ADVOCATE OF THE "DON'T LET THE CACHE SPOIL A GOOD HIKE" PHILOSOPHY. IF YOU WANT GUARANTEED SUCCESS ON ALL MICROS/NANOS OF THIS MULTI, EMAIL ME AND I'LL GIVE YOU FOOLPROOF CLUES TO EACH STAGE. I'M TIRED OF A DNF ON MICROS, SO I FIGURE I'D BETTER PUT MY MONEY WHERE MY MOUTH IS. CACHES ARE MEANT TO BE FOUND, NOT FRUSTRATING.
