Geocache Description:

The Traveling Cache (TC) is a unique cache in that its goal is to move from place to place, never sitting in any one location too long. Each time it is moved, a container is left behind to allow subsequent cachers to log finds in spots the TC once called home. Meanwhile, the TC itself will move about to who knows where, as new chapters are created by people who would like to extend the series.

In theory, cachers can have multiple signatures in the same log book since the original log will move with the TC container, yet each chapter stands alone as a permanent cache because of the new container and log book that are left behind when the TC is moved.

The TC's journey began with Chapter One, a puzzle cache of modest difficulty, and each subsequent chapter has involved a puzzle find that has grown a bit more difficult. As a result, the TC has been receiving less and less visits and has not been moving as often as intended.

This fifth edition of the Traveling Cache series represents a deviation of sorts from previous chapters in the series. The idea is to "resurrect" the original mission of the series by creating a new, easier type of puzzle that can be used as a model for future chapters in the series.

The puzzle below will lead you to the location where the Traveling Cache was once placed. The traveling container has since been moved but a “left behind” container and log book are now in place awaiting your visit.

How many new chapters will be published? How far will the Traveling Cache move? Read below and learn how it works, then solve the puzzle and get involved by tracking down the original container and signing your name in the official log book, wherever it may be, and by creating your own chapter to add to the series.

The Concept

Once a tenth find has been logged after a chapter has been created, or once the Traveling Cache has been in one spot for thirty days or more, it becomes eligible to be moved to a new location.

Anyone can move the cache and create a new chapter. All you need do is post a note alerting others of your intent, then wait until ten finds have been logged or thirty days have elapsed from the day the current chapter was published, whichever comes first.

However, you must carefully read and follow the rules of the road below before you move the Traveling Cache.

The Chapter Five Puzzle

The posted coordinates will take you to a parking lot on Millwood Street in Framingham, one of two primary parking areas for the south section of Callahan State Park. Alternate parking is available on Edmunds Road at N 42 19.884, N 71 28.520. Millwood is recommended for this cache unless you are planning to grab one or more of the other caches that are best accessed from Edmunds Road.

The Traveling Cache is now long gone, but a container with log book and trade items has been left behind at the Chapter Five location, coordinates to which may be determined in one of the following four ways.

Bad Parking - It's one of the more clever caches you will ever come across but it is pretty tough to tackle. Here is some help that could "steer" you in the right direction. TC 5 is located 2.794 miles at a bearing of 353.702 degrees from a wreck that contains the values for A and F in the Bad Parking puzzle. There may be more than one wreck that contains the values for A and F but only one will generate coordinates that will take you to Callahan South when the above distance and bearing numbers are applied.

LOST on Pine Point - This is an outstanding, classic multi that will take you to some scenic spots and it delivers a memorable finale. A mini-puzzle challenge of low difficulty has been placed inside the LOST on Pine Point final cache location. Solve the puzzle and you'll have the precise coordinates for the TC 5 location.

Insidious - There is a certain resting spot in Marlborough that could be described as the place where all the Insidious-ness began. The TC cache coordinates can be calculated by subtracting 1.948 north and 1.791 west from the "resting spot" coordinates.

Visit Chapter Four - As is the case with this edition and will be so with all subsequent editions of the Traveling Cache, you could also visit the prior chapter location to determine the next chapter’s coordinates, as the container left behind at Chapter Four has the exact coords for Chapter Five.

Rules of the Road

All new chapters of the Traveling Cache will be subject to the prevailing rules governing cache hides. Each will require examination and approval by a geocaching.com reviewer.

The "rules of the road" posted here should be copied exactly and pasted at the bottom of the cache page for all subsequent editions of the Traveling Cache.

Prior to relocating the cache, the mover will place a small container (not a micro) in the spot where the Traveling Cache was hidden. Inside the new container should be a log book and some trade items.

To avoid any confusion, the "mover" should post a note, at least one day or more in advance, alerting others of your intent to move the cache. Once you post this note, you have essentially reserved the right to move the cache. You should also publish a follow up note once you actually retrieve the Traveling Cache and take it to a new home.

Once an FTF is claimed at the new chapter, the owner of the new chapter or someone he/she designates will place the precise coordinates to the new chapter in the "left behind" container at the site of the prior chapter.

Please do not place a new puzzle in the left behind container. As a prerequisite to adding a new chapter, you must be willing to place the precise north and west coordinates for your new cache in the left behind container after an FTF is claimed.

The delay in placing coords for the new chapter in the prior chapter's left behind container is to assure the new chapter is not found by anyone before it is actually published, thus providing a level playing field for the FTF.

The puzzle for each new chapter should involve identifying three favorite caches and providing instructions that lead from those caches to the new location where the next chapter has been hidden. In so doing, those who create new chapters are encouraged to applaud other noteworthy caches.

Thus each new chapter will either be a single stage cache for those who solve the new chapter’s puzzle or it could be a puzzle/multi-cache hybrid for those who find a previous chapter and use the left behind clues to locate subsequent chapters.
