Blackbird 71 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Rick2004: City built a trail through the cache, kept the ammo box, failed to contact me, trackables were in the ammo box. Still a great view with a bench installed there.

Geocache Description:

Great view from mining tailing pile

This cache was a Christmas present for Julian, age 11, my nephew visiting from Pittsburg. He found his first geocaches with us in August 2005. He named the cache, picked the hiding location, and chose the items to put in the cache. Cache is an ammo box. It originally contains 11 tiny toy arrows; 2 tiny toy swords; 3 interesting swizzle sticks; 1 whistle; 1 small toy propellor; 1 toy giraffe; 1 tiny toy vine decoration; 1 spoon; red, white and blue necklaces; 1 ornament (its Christmastime); and 3 hand made tiles. Named for "spy like" view and Julian's fascination with aircraft.

Park at N 32deg 45.215 W 108deg 17.417, hike on trails most of the way. Can go west off trail at N32deg 45.574 W108deg 17.446, and no need to hike up rock slopes, just circle around as convenient. Or you can go a bit further up the trail to N32deg 45.638 W108deg 17.412 and go left on that trail to circle around from the other side. (Note: There are other approaches to this cache given that it lies within the Trail System.)

This is the south side of Town of Silver City Trail system on Boston Hill. Most folks hike on the North side, so we thought a hike on the south side would be more fun. And did I mention, the view is terrific!

Update August 1, 2008: Cache is in relatively good shape but now lacks a writing implement which I should have anticipated. DUH. Placed an additional item in the cache.

Update March 26, 2014: Refreshed with roll of pennies and fortune telling cards. Otherwise in good shape.
