During this event, there will be an optional
trivia competition with a question to test your geocaching
knowledge. Also take part in the first ever geo-petting
zoo.
As usual, I will be offering a social hike which will begin at
approximately 8:30am for those that are interested. This is
completely optional and you do not need to do any hiking in order
to log this event as Attended.
Information on this optional hike for those that are interested
is as follows:
Goal: To hike the entire 53.8km of the Dufferin Hi-Land section of
the Bruce Trail.
After 3 successful Bruce Trail hikes, we plan to continue where
we left off and hike the entire Dufferin Hi-Land section. The total
distance of the Dufferin Hi-Land section is 53.8km long, and we
will be hiking the entire section. This will be the longest of all
of our Bruce Trail hikes.
Future hikes will take place approximately every 6 months, and
will usually be on the last weekend of April and October.
I estimate that the entire hike will take about 14 hours to
complete, so we should be done around 10pm. This is at a moderate
4km\h pace.
If you can't make the entire hike, maybe join us for part of it
atleast. You can always drop out along the way if you feel it's too
difficult or too long.
Meet at 8:15am at the posted coordinates, which
is at the corner of Mono Centre St and 3rd Line East.
Destination is the 53.8km mark of the Dufferin Hi-Land
section of the Bruce Trail which is at the corner of Centre Rd and
Mulmur Nottawasaga Townline.(N44 16.036 W80 09.808)
Parking: There is
enough road side parking on 3rd Line East at the start of the
hike. The best place to park near the end is about 500m east
of the end point of the hike in front of the cemetery (lots of
room to pull safely off of the road) on Mulmur Nottawasaga
Townline. Hopefully some people will park at the end and
carpool back to the starting point both before and after the
hike. I plan on parking at the end point so I will need a ride
to the beginning before the hike.
It might be wise to stash some supplies at certain locations of
your choice along the trail so that you don't have to carry
everything with you.
What you should bring: Water and other drinks. Food for
lunch, dinner and snacks. GPS. Maps. Camera. Cell Phone. First Aid
Kit. Advil/Tylenol.
Track our progress as we hike the trail. Don't feel up
for the hike, then join us by watching our progress as we go along.
Screen will update every minute, but our progress will be updated
every 15 minutes or so. Thanks to northerpenguin for setting this
up.
