Reading Town Forest Area
Public
This small wood near the headwaters of the Ipswich River has dramatically shrunk in the decades since I first moved to town in the early 1980s. Development on the North Reading side mars the view to the North. A new elementary school at the east end stripped many forested acres away. But what remains is very pretty, with stands of tall pines and marshy lowlands. It affords very nice Nordic skiing and snowshoeing in winter. And with Reading switching to the MWRA, there is now less pressure on the Ipswich River.
