A 20' pole L-4 tower was built here in 1935, and destroyed in 1956. The history of the present 10' wooden platform tower is in question. If anybody knows, please let me know.

Ant Hill Lookout

Established with a crows nest in the 1920s, followed by a 24' pole platform in 1930, a 67' wooden L-4 tower, built in 1946, was last staffed in 1974 and removed in 1976.

Arbuckle Mtn.

Developed in 1936 with a 20' pole L-4 tower, there also was a garage added at one time. The original pole tower legs were replaced with treated timber legs later on. The concrete piers were redone in 1994.

Black Butte Lookout

In the 1920's, a cupola cabin was constructed, followed by a 40' wooden live-in tower in the 1930's. A 30' steel live-in was built in 1947, replaced by the present 30' all-steel live-in tower in 1961. It is available for emergency use.

Bone Point Lookout

1932: crows nest. 1935: 25' wooden tower. Gone 1968.

Hash Rock

A crow's nest was built in 1932, followed by a 60' wooden tower and ground cabin in 1934. The present 50' wooden tower with ODF cab, built in 1953, is staffed during the summer.

Higher in the Ochocos!

1926: crows nest. 1934: 50' wooden L-6 tower, cabin. Named in honor of Douglas C. Ingram, a victim of the 1929 Camas Fire near Chelan, WA. He was the site's first lookout. Destroyed 1960s.

Ingram Point 

Replacing a D-6 cupola cabin from 1923, the present 37' all steel live-in tower, built in 1957, is staffed every summer.

Madison Butte Lookout

Porcupine Ridge Lookout

Located only 1/2 mile off U.S. Highway 395, this 3-story enclosed tower with live-in cab, built in 1950, was staffed into the 1980's, and is presently staffed by a patrol engine when they are not assigned to a fire.

Ritter Butte Lookout

A tree platform was used as the first lookout in 1925, replaced by the present 96' steel Aermotor tower and a ground house in 1933. The original cabin accidentally burned in 1966, with the garage converted into living quarters. The cabin is available on the Recreation Rental program.

Tamarack Mtn. Lookout

1920s: crows nest. 1932: 90' steel tower, cabin. Gone 1971.
