The rock bridge was hiding the rock wall, a rock was hiding the ammo can, and the ammo can was hiding....  HORNETS!!  Only 9 stings, mostly to the head.  The guy at the pharmacy where I went to buy bite relief meds thought I was completely mental.

One is supposed to find this cache by simply walking merrily across a culvert bridge.  But when spring run-off washes away the bridge?  Time to get creative.

In the Shadow of the Master

As the name implies, a boat is required, and one must paddle the Grand River to here.  Then, along one side of the island, the river is about a half inch deep with a mucky bottom, and on the other side it runs swift through the narrow gap.  Classic venturi effect.  If one can maneuver through enough to get to the edge, it's a little quieter and you can tie off to a tree.  But now you have to climb a steep bank made of slippery mud onto the island, then work through briars and poison ivy while dressed for paddling.  Type II fun for sure.

High Centered a GMC Acadia between the ruts of a seasonal road in the middle of deep winter snow, then had to lever it out.  But we found the cache!

I started this list mostly as a favorite list, but now that Favorite Points are a thing, I have re-purposed it a bit.  On this list I am placing all the caches where I've had to really dig deep and tell myself I wanted this find more than I wanted to stay clean, dry, on solid ground, and injury free.  Put another way, these caches qualify as Type II Fun on this scale: https://www.rei.com/blog/climb/fun-scale.  These are the caches that are what I consider this game to be all about.  Kudos to those that hid these caches.
