Geocache Description:

ISIS BIBEEE

UPDATE 16 February 2021: The easy way in is now a private driveway, but there are other not so easy ways into GZ.

This racing car driver started off her brief racing career on the Mt Kuring Gai motor cross track in the early 1970s. Moving quickly through the junior circuit Isis won many races before turning to senior motor cross and then surprising her coach by turning to touring car racing.

Kay Petre – Queen of Brookland Race Circuits, an inspiration to Isis Bibeee

With eyes on Australia's touring car crown Isis Bibeee gained an important sponsor in 1977, and in that year she entered the Bathurst Hardie-Ferodo 1000. Bibeee's car featured her own customised, squared cam 3.6L ISIS V6 engine, a supercharged cutdown version of Holden's successful 5.0L V8 engine.

Bibeee was well positioned in the final laps of the 1977 race when disaster struck. Turning out of Forest Elbow into Conrod Straight Bibeee's car began pouring smoke from the engine bay. Spectators reported seeing a flash of intense light, then heard a loud explosion and saw something rocket out of the car into the sky. The car came to a skidding halt and Isis Bibeee emerged unscathed, but her race was over.

Forensic analysis suggests the engine block detached from its mountings and the supercharger exploded propelling the engine at a high velocity, perhaps as fast as 3.5 x the speed of sound at a moderate angle to the ESE. Pilots of a commercial TAA jet flying over Lithgow at the time reported hearing a sonic boom and seeing a bright object streaking across the sky towards the coast. They reported a UFO to Mascot Air Traffic Control but there was never any investigation.

Allan Moffat and Colin Bond went on to cross the line first and second in one of the most memorable finishes in Bathurst racing history. Following the demise of her unique engine technology Isis left motor sport and went on to become a successful entertainer under another name, some say it was "Lebeee". But that's another story.

The ISIS V6 engine (number 25531617) has never been found!

Have fun calculating the location of Isis Bibeee's cache. It's not at the posted coordinates, but this isn't a bad spot to park. Please no photos of the cache so everyone gets the same surprise.
