STIF Nolan Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Croydon crew: A check yesterday confirmed that the current cache was no longer in its hide. The time has come, after 14 years, to finally archive this one.

Thanks to all those who came to Concord, visited the Ironbarks, and learned a little of the local history. It was always a thrill to read a 'Found' log posted, and smile at your success with the co-ords 🙂

Geocache Description:

This cache is to celebrate the efforts of those who give their time to rehabilitate pockets of native bush in our city. In this instance, the Sydney Turpentine – Ironbark Forest (STIF) in Queen Elizabeth Park (QEP), Concord, and the cache begins at a plaque celebrating this.

Today, only small pockets remain of the once extensive Cumberland Plain Forest in the City of Canada Bay Council area. These remnants contain the Sydney Turpentine-Ironbark Forest vegetation community (one of eighteen different vegetation communities that form the Cumberland Plain Forest complex).

In the early 1990s, the then Concord Local Council initiated a regeneration project to restore STIF bushland within the 3.5-hectare QEP. The project is continuing and expanding under the care of Canada Bay City Council and the Concord Bushcare Group. The Concord Bushcare Group has been working to restore remnant endangered Sydney Turpentine – Ironbark Forest in Queen Elizabeth II Park for over 12 years.

** NOTE: In Sept 10, the plaque at WP1 'disappeared'. Until it is replaced, refer to the picture of it below for the information required! **

At WP1, the plaque there marks the spot as “Historical Site No ‘ab’ “
To get the co-ordinates for WP2:
S: deduct ‘a8(2*b)’ from WP1 South minutes
E: add (a(2*b)b) to WP1 East minutes
NB As with all my calculations, ignore the decimal place in coordinates

En route to WP2, take a 2-minute detour and head there via the additional waypoints 1a & 1b below. These are the start and finish of a 50m bush trail exemplifying the bush regeneration work being done in the park.

At WP2, you will find a longstanding local business set on a busy junction. This cache, in part, is named after this spot. To get the co-ordinates for GZ, look up high and use the year the locale (not the business!) was constructed (‘efgh’):

S: deduct ‘e’ from WP2 South minutes
E: deduct ((e+g)f) from WP2 East minutes

The cache is hidden nearby, and is a micro container with a log – byo pen / pencil. FTF can claim the pin as their prize! Please re-apply camouflage exactly as found, being VERY careful not to reinsert the cache too far!
