Navy Pier - Get Wacky! Virtual Cache

This cache has been archived.

djwhouse: Thanks for the visits! Chicago is an interesting town...

For the curious, this cache was archived for multiple reasons, primarily due to the pier closures both pandemic and financial. I also no longer wished to manage the cache under this situation, and as the virtual was a grant from HQ, did not feel it appropriate to pass on.

How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Let's have some FUN at Navy Pier! Add a wacky picture to your log and become famous!

Can you win with your GeT WaCkY photo?!

To log this virtual: You must complete the TWO requirements of ITEM ONE. Optionally, have some FUN and ALSO submit a 'WACKY' photo and compete for the Wacky Hall of FAME!

1) REQUIRED ITEMS:

1) Submit a picture (normal) WITH YOUR LOG ENTRY of yourself, holding your GPSr or phone at the posted coordinates with the GZ item in the background. If you don't have a GPSr and need your phone to take the picture, you must give a thumbs up in the photo.

2) You must EMAIL or MESSAGE me (do not put in LOG) the answer to this question regarding 'Rudi' "6 times under ________" (fill in the blank). Answer is at GZ.

2) OPTIONAL ITEM: GET WACKY!:

Create a WACKY fun image ANYWHERE at Navy Pier! Submit your WACKY image with your LOG and compete for that months winner!

WACKY SUGGESTIONS: Post at least one ADDITIONAL and WACKY image with your log, from ANYWHERE at Navy Pier. Make this image with lots of crazy action, humor, smiles, props, positions and general geocaching goof-edness! There are sooo many unique and fun spots at Navy Pier you can use, or just as a background! Your log and image(s) will be rated along with all other 'entries' that month, and the highest rated wacky image(s) and log will be highlighted on the page!

I have created an image evaluation algorithm will measure multiple parameters of your image, AND your log entry, with the intent of selecting the wackiest, creative, most fun, most geocaching-centric, geocachers, to feature their image for one whole month on this very cache page, and to list that cacher's name and log in the 'Wacky Image Wall of Fame' for the eternity of GQ!

Note: You must visit this location after this virtual was published to claim a find. I am required to delete all logs that submit old photos or do not fully complete the requirements. During the winter season, multiple months may be combined for the competition.

DECEMBER 2019 GET WACKY WINNER!

Fun Facts about Navy Pier!!

When this cache was published, Navy Pier was 101 years old!

Navy Pier is 3,300 feet long! That's almost 2/3 of a mile!

Navy Pier sits upon 20,000 Cedar logs, brought in from Oregon.

Navy Pier...

... once housed a prison (WW I era).

... was a training center for Navy pilots. 15,000 pilots were trained here (WW II era).

... because of the pilot training... over 100 planes lie underwater in the area.

... Ferris wheel can hold 300 people, and is over 150 feet high.

... was visited by 33 year old Queen Elizabeth II, in 1959.

... was the starting point for the first fresh water America's Cup race (after 164 years of saltwater races).

... was the training base for George H. W. Bush.

... was one of five planned piers in Chicago, but the only one built.

... housed the University of Illinois, Chicago campus for 19 years.

About the Algorithm

The algorithm cannot of course be shared here, but it is based on both the images and the log. One could imagine a simple 'TFTC' log, may not score as well, as other logs (length alone will not be a factor however). Specific characteristics of each image will add to your score! The more fun you or your group have in creating the image, will certainly reflect in the scoring! Good luck cachers!!

NOTE: Due to limited visitations in winter, multiple months entries may be combined to a single 'Winter Winner'.

Congrats (and thumbs up!) to Tzinny on the FTF!!!
