Geocache Description:

Drivers leaving Ingram, TX, and heading west on Texas Highway 39 may suddenly find themselves believing that Druids once inhabited the area. But did they really? Actually, no, but the story of this unique location is a story of two men with an inspiration and the drive to see it through to completion.

In 1989 Doug Hill, a Kerr County native, finished his patio and pondered what he might do with an extra large slab of limestone that was left over. His neighbor, Al Sheppard, accepted the monolith and stood it upright in the middle of a field at approximately N  30° 04.433' W 0 99° 21.513.  Sheppard and Hill followed erection of the monolith with an arch built around the upright stone. The combination of the stone and arch led the two men to think of Stonehenge in England, and they decided to build their own version of that historical monument.

The men labored for 9 months creating the scaled down version of Stonehenge in that field about 7 miles west of the current location. Somewhat later, Al Sheppard decided to add 2 thirteen foot tall Moai head statues.

The creation stood in its original location until 2010, and there was even a traditional geocache (GC157F)  hidden in a small stand of trees along the road that curved past the site. Al Sheppard passed away in 1994, and finally in 2010 the monument was donated to a local arts foundation in Ingram. After sufficient funds were raised, the sculpture was moved to its present location.
