Geocache Description:

...led the Big Parade, with a shiny new addition!

This cache will take you on a short tour of Anzac Parade and show you a fairly new platform.
Please read the listing before attempting
(You may want to take a printed copy of the listing with you)

The cache is not at the listed coordinates.

If you are looking for a swim, I wouldn't suggest the listed coordinates either!

Since the creation of my first Intercache, some of the previous finders have asked me to create another one of these, but maybe a bit shorter this time. I thought about it quite a bit and decided that Anzac Parade would be a nice place to show off this new type.

Anzac Parade lies along the Land Axis, as set out by the Burley Griffin plan that Canberra was created around. If you wanted a nice 25 mile walk along the axis, then you would be at the summit of Bimberi Peak! Anzac Parade is lined with memorials, commemorating the sacrifice of those who have died during conflict. ANZAC stands for the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps, soldiers who went to fight in the Great War of 1914-18 on the other side of the world. It is generally believed that the unsuccessful Gallipoli campaign of 1915 was a defining moment for the identities of both countries.

This cache replaces the original from ten years ago, 76 Trombones by Kiwijam. I hope this one does it justice.

Please be respectful when visiting the memorials. Also, please be very stealthy around GZ. It is a high muggle area. The cache should be fairly obvious and there are some great views at GZ!

What is an Intercache?

An InterCache is an interactive geocache. A geocache is an outdoor activity that uses GPS devices to play a high tech treasure hunt. See geocaching.com for more information. An intercache is a new way of creating a mystery geocache, similar to a wherigo geocache. The biggest difference is that the entire geocache can be developed, edited, and played on your mobile phone's browser with no software required to download!

If your device is compatible then go to 77 Trombones to start playing now!

For this cache, there are 14 different waypoints (including GZ). This cache will take you on a loop, so I suggest parking at the parking coordinates provided. This one should not take more than 2 hours at a slow walking pace.

This is still new so there may be a few issues. Feel free to contact my Geocaching.com account email and I will try to help you out.

This cache can be done (mostly) by car on most days but I recommend you do this cache by either foot or bike.

Make sure you bring a friend (or two ) to find this cache and that you have multiple FULLY CHARGED phones.

Some final notes from ChileHead

  • This is a new way of looking for a geocache. I haven't extensively tested this yet and am still learning myself, so you may encounter some problems.
  • I recommend that you do NOT leave the browser during play. At minimum, don't open a new web page. I successfully switched apps while playing/testing it, but if you close the browser window, you may have to start over.
  • It's safe to let your screen timeout while walking. When the screen times out, your GPS *should* go off and not waste battery. When you turn your phone screen back on, it might take a few seconds for the app to get your coordinates again.
Good Luck!
