I had originally planned to place this cache in the rocks at the nearby Hawk's Rest (or Haw's Pest, as the sign currently states!) picnic area, but GCGNXT was only 370 feet away. I had chosen that spot because the phrase "higher than a hawg's nest" is an inside family joke that would have been fun to acknowledge out here. Yes, I said hawg, not hawk! Long story short; nearby cache too close, need new spot. Fortune smiled on me, and I found this even more wonderful area instead!
The entire hike is fairly easy, although the last few hundred feet can be a bit slippery under various weather and seasonal conditions. The cache itself is located in a perfect niche well away from the eyes of a casual hiker.
Please note that there is an "optional" requirement that you post a unique photo of yourself at the cache site or a unique photo of the view from the cache site in order to claim a find! It is "optional" in that you can get a waiver if you don't have the physical, financial, or technical means to post a picture. Basically, if you can, please do!!
The last few feet can be quite tricky. Please use extreme caution!
I have to explain the naming of this cache: first, the cache is at an area in the park called Sky Camp; my geocaching buddy Equinox 2002 was with me when placing this cache; while on this trek he grabbed his milestone 200th cache; Equinox chose his name because I introduced him to caching on the 2002 autumnal equinox; there is an annual event called Equinox Sky Camp at which British amateur astronomers gather; and this would be an awesome spot to camp out under the sky and do some stargazing. See? Perfect!
