Geocache Description:

Congratulations

FTF - PlasmaWave
STF - llouise
TTF - ErewashPaddler

We were recently awarded the privilege of being able to create a Virtual Geocache by Groundspeak, we’re sure this must be related to the number of favorite votes awarded to our caches by fellow geocachers, so we’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has visited our caches and awarded us favorite votes. Thank You.

We have chosen to set our Virtual Geocache at the National Memorial Arboretum near Alrewas, Lichfield, which is somewhere we are very proud to have locally and as Friends Of The Arboretum members visit on a regular basis.

The National Memorial Arboretum is a national site of remembrance at, it gives its purpose as:
“The National Memorial Arboretum honours the fallen, recognises service and sacrifice and fosters pride in our country. It is a spiritually uplifting place and is emerging as a world-renowned centre for remembrance.”
Although this geoacache is accessible 24/7 via the public footpath alongside the adjacent River Tame, we would recommend visiting during the official opening hours as there are many other exhibitions in the visitors center, audio tours and a land train for those who struggle to walk around this rather large site.

It is free of charge to enter the arboretum, but there is a charge for parking, currently £3 (2017) and additional charges for audio tours and the land train, full details and opening hours can be found here.

Please note - Due to the nature of the site and for the comfort of all visitors, only working assistance dogs are allowed within the memorial grounds and Remembrance Centre. Dog walkers are welcome to use the designated dog walking paths on the periphery of the site and a special dog walking map is available. This can be collected from the front of the Remembrance Centre or from

Some of the way-points on this Virtual cache are in areas where dogs are not allowed, so someone will need to take care of your dog whilst retrieving the information required.

The arboretum is most famous for its Armed Forces Memorial which is the focal point of the site and should not be missed, but as we’ve explored the arboretum we continue to find new memorials and memorials tucked away in areas we’ve yet to explore, we’ve taken this opportunity to use this virtual geocache to visit some of the ones we found most interesting, either, due to their subject matter, or from the artwork and sculpture used in the memorial.

You should allow at least an hour to gather all the information you need for this geocache, but if this is your first visit we suggest you allow significantly more time for further exploration to get the best visit possible, there is also a multi geocache you may want to do at the same time.

To log this geocache you will need to visit the following waypoints and message us with the answers to the questions linked to each one.

Optionally attach a photo with your GPS at your favorite memorial, it doesn’t need to be one of those we have chosen, it may be one we haven’t found yet. (No Spoiler Photos Please).
