Geocache Description:

Wellington really loves its harbour!

Over the past few decades the harbour edge has been developed and improved to become a significant part of the identity of Wellington, so it is entirely apt to use this special virtual cache to encourage everyone to explore our very special Te Whanganui a Tara.

We are blessed with one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the world- ringed by hills, with the city coming right down to its edge. It’s a fantastic walk exploring the inner harbour edge which offers all manner of interesting and accessible sights and places, starting from the northern end where the Blue Bridge ferry docks, historic harbour buildings, down past the main CPD, alongside the park and playground, the bridges, boating club, and historic boats and other artifacts. Then it’s past Te Papa and the wide open spaces take you to the yachts and boat sheds, to the relaxed strollabilty of Oriental Parade, the beach and playground, Norfolk pines and the fountain out in the water. If you look carefully in the water all manner of sea creatures can be seen, including sometimes dolphins and sting rays, and recently a Southern Right whale set up residence for a week or so during Matariki.

There are always people enjoying the harbour edge, walking or riding, fishing or dining as it really is a wonderful walk in all conditions. To encourage you to join in the promenade, the cache is located right at the end of Clyde Quay Wharf where once the elegant Overseas Passenger Terminal stood. The building was replaced by the apartments you now see, but the perimeter of the wharf is still fully accessable to the public allowing you to get right out into the inner harbour to admire the panoramic views across the water from the city to the main harbour and hills beyond. This view is especially magical at the end of the day as the sky dims and the lights of the city glow bright.

To claim this Virtual Cache please hunt around the cache location to answer the question below – then email the answer to me (tim@timburns.nz) - and then just go ahead and log the find on line (you don’t need to wait for a ‘YES’ from me). Also feel free to post a photo of you in the location in the log (just don’t reveal the answer to the question).

Question - What do you need to clean after use?

PS- the answer has nothing to do with the signs over by the boats about keeping your boat clean
