This is the virtual replacement for "The Highlands of Kerry" (GCMDTB) which had to be deactivated due to access permission issues on the walk beside Cloon Lake.
This cache will bring you to one of the most remote and beautiful parts of Kerry. Glencar, also called "The Highlands of Kerry", is a National Heritage and Special Conservation Area in the middle of the Iveragh peninsula in Co. Kerry. You can approach this cache from Killarney, Killorglin, Cahersiveen or Sneem. If you can, you should drive through both the Ballagh Oisin Gap (from Cahersiveen or Waterville) and Ballagh Beama Gap (from Sneem and Kenmare) – they are breathtaking. You will find map displays on all approach roads to this area. After finding this cache, it is well worth continuing on the road to have a look at Cloon Lake and walk on the right side as far as the warning signs allow.
The cache location is a typical graveyard in this part of the world. What is not so typical is the death date of one particular person - and it shows that we have a different calendar here in Kerry!
