Geocache Description:

This is a really nice cache. A beautiful location and a site which is challenging, but not too hard.

The cache is a tupperware type container with a clear lid.

It contains a diversity of items which are fun if you want to do swapsies !!!

Park the car at S27 34.859 E153 19.055 or hereabouts..there is more parking on the upper level and with an even better view.

Board the ferry at S27 34.914 E153 19.136 The fare is AUD$8 return for adults...can't remember the kids fare.

Alight from the ferry a few moments later at S27 34.496 E153 19.944...Now quite a slow ferry due to the price of fuel !!!

Proceed basically straight ahead when you reach the end of the ferry jetty and head up the sealed road. Turn right onto the dirt road at S27 34.007 E153 20.018 and follow it till you find the start of the track into the Melaleuca Wetlands Forest at S27 34.012 E153 20.274. Follow the Coochiemudlo Track southwards.

Stop at the "S" bend on the track - you can see the water just off to your left - From here you can see the original cache location.

The cache WAS hidden under the trunk of a fallen tree at the roots end, about 50 metres from the track. Since last I visited "Coochie Coup" the terrain at the original GZ of the cache has changed enormously. There is now a water barrier guarding the original cache site - it is a swamp after all !!! This, and it would appear that the fallen tree has now sunk into the ground to the extent that the cache box could not be placed under the trunk. On one maintenance visit, some time ago, somebody had moved the cache into the base of the exposed root system of the fallen tree facing and somewhat visible from the main Coochiemudlo Track and this perhaps led to it being subject to "Muggling". Whether "Coochie Coup" was "Muggled" or just sank into the terrain....Don't know !!! But, with the
"water hazard" and the ingress track starting to resemble the M1, I decided a minor replace/relocate exercise might be in order....When you get to the edge of the water, cast your gaze northwards. In the not too distant distance, you'll see a bigger than the rest gnarly old gum tree. Until further notice, "Coochie Coup" lies at the base of it on the western side. Has sticks and bark on top to hide/protect it. Would appreciate if Cachers could pile a bit more paperbark on top. "Coochie Coup" is now located at 27 degrees 34 minutes and 4 seconds South, 153 degrees 20 minutes and 17 seconds East. This Geocache was originally placed in February 2002. 13 and a half years ago (as of August 2015)
After you have recovered the goodies...return to the Coochiemudlo Track and follow it until you can turn a little to the left to gain access to the beach.

There is a cafe which serves very decent COFFEE and food (Open at various times) !!!! at S27 34.426 E153 20.031 .... Free BBQs and picnic area with water views nearby.

Hope you enjoy this, our 5th Geocache!!!
