Le chevalier de Lévis…
François-Gaston de Lévis, né le 20 août 1719 à Ajac (Languedoc, auj. dans le département de l'Aude), mort le 26 novembre 1787 à Arras, chevalier, puis duc de Lévis, est un militaire français qui s'est notamment illustré en Nouvelle-France.
En 1756, il est nommé brigadier et commandant en second de l'armée française en Nouvelle-France aux côtés du général Louis-Joseph de Montcalm. Dans les premiers de temps de cette affectation, il est responsable de la défense du Fort carillon, avant-poste d'importance pour la défense de la colonie française contre la menace britannique. Lors de la bataille des plaines d'Abraham qui se conclut par la chute de Québec, il est absent avec une partie des troupes puisqu'il a la charge de défendre Montréal contre une éventuelle attaque de l'ennemi. À la mort de Montcalm, il devient commandant en chef des armées françaises en Nouvelle-France. Il organise la reprise de la ville de Québec, alors occupée par les Britanniques. Cette contre-offensive est un succès, grâce à la victoire de son armée à la bataille de Sainte-Foy et la mise en état de siège de la ville de Québec. Cependant, des renforts de l'armée adverse rendent impossible la reprise de la ville, et Lévis est contraint de se retrancher avec ses troupes sur l'île Sainte-Hélène, près de Montréal. Il assiste alors, impuissant, à la capitulation et au départ progressif des forces françaises de la colonie.

2- Au coordonnée N46° 48.338 W071° 11.140, vous trouverez un panneau donnant des informations sur la terrasse de Lévis. Selon l’Action catholique, la construction de la terrasse aurait nécessité combien de sacs de ciment ?
3- Vous devez inclure avec votre log, une photo de vous (sans nécessairement le visage) montrant que vous avez bien visité la terrasse et le monument du chevalier de Lévis.

François-Gaston de Lévis, born August 20, 1719 in Ajac (Languedoc, in the department of Aude), died November 26, 1787 in Arras, knight, then duke of Lévis, is a French soldier who was illustrated in New France.
In 1756, he was appointed brigadier and second in command of the French army in New France alongside General Louis-Joseph de Montcalm. In the early days of this assignment, he is responsible for the defense of Fort Carillon, an important outpost for the defense of the French colony against the British threat. During the battle of the Plains of Abraham, which ended with the fall of Quebec, he was absent with some of the troops since he was in charge of defending Montreal against a possible attack by the enemy. When Montcalm died, he became commander-in-chief of the French armies in New France. He organized the resumption of the city of Quebec, then occupied by the British.
