Current Goal

I am a Rockhopper Penguin of the southern variety (Eudyptes chrysocome chrysocome). I'm headed south and would like to travel to one of my native habitats: the Falkland/Maldive Islands, Argentina, or Chile before returning back to Ithaca, NY. I am being launched near the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology - a premier institute for avian research and conservation.

About This Item

Rockhopper TB

Eudyptes crestatus -
Rockhopper Penguin.

Kingdom: Animalia,
Phylum: Chordata,
Class: Aves,
Order: Ciconiiformes,
Family: Spheniscidae,
Genus: Eudyptes,
species: Eudyptes crestatus.

Rockhoppers are among the smallest of the world's penguins averaging 52 cm in length and 3 kg in weight. Their distinct yellow stripe above each eye extends upward into a yellow crest on top of the head. Behind the head they have a black occipital (back of the head) crest. They have red eyes, a short red-brown bulbous bill and pink feet and legs. Females are often slightly smaller than males.

In spite of their small size, rockhoppers are known to be quite aggressive. They are not intimidated by humans or by other birds and animals, even larger ones.

Wow, this is an ambitious goal. I could hold on to it until Dec. when I'm going on a cruise to Mexico but I doubt if the owner wants it out of circulation for that long. Unless owner contacts me, I'll put it in another cache in the next week or so.
