This travel bug represents a brief evolution of the idea of the atom.
An atom is the smallest unit of ordinary matter. Every atom is composed of a nucleus (protons and neutrons) and electrons bounds.
The first model - plum pudding model was proposed by J. J. Thompson in 1904. The plum pudding model has electrons (plums) surrounded by a volume of positive charge (pudding).
The Rutherford model was created by E. Rutherford in 1911. In new model was in the centre small region of positive charge (nucleus) and cloud of electrons orbiting around the nucleus.
The Bohr model was presented by N. Bohr and E. Rutherford in 1913. Atom is a system consisting of a small nucleus surrounded by orbiting electrons – similar as the Solar System.
The Schrödinger model was developed by E. Schrödinger in 1926. The electron (like all other particles) is not described as a mass point, but as a wave function defining the probabilities of the electron occurring in different places in space (orbitals).
