Ich habe keine spezielle Mission, freue mich aber immer, wenn ich in Caches komme, die mit Computer oder Elektronik zu tun haben.

ich bin RAM, ein halbes 64MB Arbeitsspeicher Modul aus einem alten PC. Mitte der 90er Jahre war ich noch top modern und vor allem eines: richtig teuer!

Der erste PC meines Besitzers war damals mit einem Pentium I Prozessor mit 100 MHz bestückt, einer 1GB Festplatte, einem 3,5 Zoll Diskettenlaufwerk und einem mega großen Arbeitsspeicher von 32MB, bestehend aus 2 Modulen à 16MB. Alleine diese 2 Module hatten im November 1995 1500,- DM gekostet, und waren ein absolutes Messepreis Schnäppchen in Stuttgart auf dem Killesberg. Das entspricht heute knapp 770,-€.

Bei einem Gewicht von 17,5g sind das stolze 44 €/g, bzw. 24€/MB.

Übrigens: Der damalige Goldpreis lag bei etwa 9,-€/g

Hätten wir noch die Preise von damals, würde die 4GB Karte im Garmin meines Besitzers 96.000,- € kosten!

Wie schön, dass inzwischen die Preise für Speicherbausteine und – Karten auf einen winzigen Bruchteil davon gefallen sind und wir problemlos mit GB und TB (Terabyte) Datengrößen „spielen“ können. Das dürfte aber auch so ziemlich das einzige sein, was über diesen Zeitraum so preiswert geworden ist.

my name is RAM and I am a half part of a 64MB memory board, coming out of an old PC. In the mid of the 90^th years, I was modern styled, but not only that: I was really expensive!

The first PC of my owner was fitted with a Pentium I processor with 100 MHz, a 1GB hard disk drive, a 3,5 inch floppy drive and a mega sized memory of 32MB, consistent of 2 boards at 16 MB each. These 2 modules had a special exhibition price of 770,- € in Nov-1995.

While the weight of one module is 17,5g, we are resulting in 44€/g or 24€/MB.

By the way: the price for gold was about 9,-€/g in Nov-1995.

If these prices would be still valid as of today, the 4GB micro SD card in the Garmin instrument of my owner had a price of 96.000,- €!

It’s good to see, that the prices for memory boards and –cards decreased dramatically and we can play with GB’s and TB’s easily. But that’s almost the only thing which decreased in pricing over that timeframe.
