Current Goal

Please note that this is a geocoin proxy.  It is a space shuttle pin attached to a tracking tag.  I've read that over 95% of geocoins that are released to travel from cache to cache go missing.  I love finding trackables in the wild, but I don't want this coin to go missing.  I'm going to hold onto it and will bring to events for folks to discover.    I'm sending out a "Space Shuttle" proxy in its place so all can see this cool Space Shuttle and earn the icon.

About This Item

Space Shuttle Geocoin Gold

Gold Space Shuttle Coin On Jan. 28, 1986, 73 seconds after launch, the Space Shuttle Challenger was lost to us on mission STS-51-L. During her lifetime, Challenger made 10 successful flights, surviving over 62 days in space, and almost 1000 orbits around our Earth. Seventeen years later, during re-entry of mission STS-107, on Jan 16, 2003 the Space Shuttle Columbia was lost to us. During her lifetime, Columbia made 28 successful flights, surviving over 300 days in space, and over 4800 orbits around our Earth. Both shuttles had a crew of 7 astronauts. While 38 missions might not seem like a lot for a pair of space craft, it is important to consider scale. Each orbit added over 25,000 miles to a shuttle's odometer! This coin commemorates both those flights, and the fourteen brave souls who were lost during those final missions. The artwork on the back of the coin is an artistic composite of the mission insignias from both flights STS-51-L and STS-107.

Wow...another whirlwind weekend. You know it's great when you can't remember where you have been...over 1k miles traveled...mainly to Wisconsin and back...but who knows where we were during it. Caching in torrential rain, taking so many pictures of cars with trackables...working some time at the trackable table and discovering MANY more trackables...people wearing trackables...and like myself...people who are trackables too! What a great trip. Thank you for sharing the TB with me...and after seeing so many, and going a little crosseyed please forgive me if I log yours twice! (it does only count once)
