About This Item

Lizzie's Rattle

This is a rattle that our daughter used when she was baby. Now that she's bigger, we thought it would make a cute travel bug that she could track.

Good morning, Lizzie!! I took your rattle on my morning walk; we captured a beautiful sunrise over historic Natchez, Mississippi, which is the oldest settlement on the mighty Mississippi River! It's even older than New Orleans - WOW! There are lots of beautiful antebellum (that means they were built before the WONA - ask your Mommy and Daddy about that) homes here, and several great views of the river.

They also have the Great Mississippi River Balloon Race every October, on the bluff you see in the pictures. It's quite a sight to see all those beautiful balloons floating so gracefully over the river... they're very interesting to watch. There's something about the wind and the river - they all seemed to rise over the bluff really well and then take a very dramatic dip toward the water before floating over the spot where this cache is located and heading out over the flatter land on this side (LA) of the river.

We'll have to plan to bring you here someday on one of your trips to Mississippi - add that to your list.

Love you!
Aunt Meg
XOXOXO

P.S. You'll need to have your daddy recalculate the miles on your bug - I logged these out of order. Oops! Sorry!

  • Sunrise on the Mighty MS River over Natchez Check out that tugboat - he let out the most soulful toot of his horn as he passed by me.
  • Sunrise over Natchez We timed it just right to finish our walk and take a break on the wonderful porch swing just down the walk from the cache, on our way back to the hotel
  • Last picture of the sunrise over Natchez Taken from the Vidalia side of the river, near the cache
  • Lizzie's Rattle TB checking out the river and Natchez, MS!
  • What a beautiful day!!

Vacation is over... time to head back to Mississippi. We've had such fun taking your rattle around to some of the cool places we got to visit. Once we get home, we'll get it to Aunt Beth for her to drop off in her Wilson House TB Inn - she gets lots of visitors headed to all kinds of cool places, so you're sure to go far!

It's been really fun taking you to all these fun places - we love you, sweetie!

Tell your Daddy to color in Wisconsin on your map, Lizzie! Here we are in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. I really hope you get to visit Wisconsin someday, Punkin - here's some of what we found here:

  1. The people were so very friendly, I know you'd love them! We made all kinds of friends along the way - they're every bit as friendly as everyone in Mississippi, and you know how much you enjoyed your trip there!

  2. Kopp's Frozen Custard in Milwaukee is AWESOME!! You're not quite old enough for it just yet, but you'll love it when you get a little more into solid food - it's SOOOOOO YUMMY!! Uncle Jimmy had a fabulous hot fudge sundae, and Mamaw and I both had homeade strawberry custard with real chunks of strawberries in it... you'll need a few more choppers to be able to munch on that, but it won't be long!

  3. Watching a Packers game at Lambeau Field is WAY COOL!! I'm sure your Daddy and Uncle Jimmy would be lots of fun to do this with... you could probably count on Uncle Jimmy to buy you a little cheesehead hat just like his if you went together. He and Mamaw were so excited to watch a real NFL game live from the Frozen Tundra (that's what they call this field in the wintertime because it's SO cold here), although it wasn't frozen the day we saw it.

  4. The 45th parallel passes right through Wisconsin (that's the invisible line that marks the halfway point between the equator and The North Pole - you knew I couldn't resist throwing something educational in there - but how cool is that?) - nifty, no?

Here are a few more pictures of your rattle TB and our time in Wisconsin - enjoy!!

  • 45th parallel marker on the roadside in WI
  • Aunt Meg, Mamaw & Uncle Jimmy at the Packers' tailgate party before the game
  • Uncle Jimmy holding your rattle TB - Lambeau outside the stadium
  • Mamaw & Uncle Jimmy w/ Lizzie's Rattle TB at our seats inside Lambeau Field! Aren't they a couple of cheeseheads? :-)

We still have a lot of road to cover, so we're moving on!! We're headed to Wisconsin to be cheeseheads!!

Look where we are now, Lizzie! A great view of Lake Superior, which is the biggest, deepest, cleanest and COLDEST of the Great Lakes (how's that for a geography lesson!). This cache was WAY out of the way - I don't have to tell you how much fun Uncle Jimmy had with our rental car (a Malibu) on the dirt roads... Mamaw was a little nervous in the backseat, but we made it out fine.

Here's another little fun fact (isn't Aunt Meg just full of fun facts!): this cache is in Christmas, Michigan, where all the street names have something to do with Christmas. We tried to get Mamaw out of the car to take a picture on Scrooge's Alley, but she wouldn't cooperate. I know it's hard for you to believe she's a scrooge at Christmastime... I know you certainly can't tell that from all the goodies she sends your way! ha ha ha

Here are a couple of fun pictures we took at the cache site and around town - enjoy!

Love,
Aunt Meg & Uncle Jimmy

Your rattle made it to Canada!!! Here's Uncle Jimmy holding your rattle near this cache - isn't the sunset beautiful, sweetie? Aunt Meg just loves sunsets and sunrises - 2 of my favorite things... besides you and your cousins, of course!!

  • Uncle Jimmy with TB on the Riverwalk In Sault Ste. Marie, Canada! Fun fact for you, Lizzie: many of the signs were written in English and French... your Mommy took LOTS of French classes in college - you'll have to ask her to teach you some French words.. just not the ugly words! :-)

Hi Lizzie! Your rattle has made it all the way to Michigan's Upper Peninsula... and it's only Wednesday... still have lots of miles to cover! Here are a couple of photos of your rattle with Uncle Jimmy and me at this cache - it was so beautiful! The Great Lakes were awesome - you'll have to ask your Mommy and Daddy to teach you about them...

Love,
Aunt Meg
