About This Item

Thunderbird 3

Thunderbird 3 is a sleek spacefaring vehicle, capable of intercepting any stranded vessel or manned satellite within our solar system. She is more often used to ferry John and Alan up to Thunderbird 5, for their month-long tour of duty.
Thunderbird 3 Specification
Pilot
Alan Tracy, youngest son of Jeff Tracy. Alan puts duty before his love for Tin-Tin and sometimes gets angry when he is the butt of kid-brother jokes, but only for a moment.
Hangar
Secret silo excavated beneath the round house, which is somewhat distant from the main house. Presumably, there's some hatch (never seen) that prevents passers-by from simply falling in.
Access to Vehicle
Alan and his copilot, usually Scott, sit on a particular sofa in the main house, which descends on an elevator piston deep underground. The sofa is replaced by an identical one. Settling onto a railcar, the astronauts are then ferried underground, across the island to TB3's silo, where another elevator tube lifts the sofa off the railcar and takes them up through a hatch in the base of TB3. The sofa is locked off, the tube retracts and the hatch is closed.
Launch Sequence
The pilot enters the internal service elevator and ascends to the command deck. At the controls, he triggers the count-down, opening the silo. Three giant booster rocket engines ignite in cradles which deflect the thrust away from the craft, which lifts off through the centre cutaway of the round house. Once into space, the particle drive is engaged.
Power Plant
Nuclear reactor for main power, situated aft. Three particle drive engines, generating continuous ion thrust. The three field coils radiate out every 120° and supply the particle guns, which fire ions at near-lightspeed down tubes passing through the main engine cluster. Chemical booster rockets, situated in farings aft, for assisting take-off and vertical landing. Ring of retro-firing rockets situated in annular faring above the 32 heat exchanger vanes.
Equipment
Space suits and thruster packs. Hand-held cutting equipment and other kinds of tools, stored in webbing-belts. Powerful transmitter array for beaming telemetry signals to stranded space craft. Cargo bay for storage. Universal docking collar for access to other spacecraft.

It only got to sit at Mini Winthrop for a few days, and now I have it. It'll be heading to another state soon, as soon as I find out which one of two I'm going to trek.

Dropped this travel bug in a nice small park in the Rock Hill Park System. This bug has been all over the place. This trip was over 500 miles from Ohio to Rock Hill.

What was lost, has been found. Thunderbird 3 had a bumpy re-entry from it's voyage from Maine to Nebraska. Between baggage claims and computer problems, we feel lucky to have it continue it's voyage. Sorry for the delay. We were able to take it's picture in Maine, Nebraska & Iowa.

Picked this one up after a bit of hiking to a plane crash site in Maine. Tried to take a picture at the site, but the batteries died in my camera. 😟 Will take a picture in Maine and move it on.
