Boatswain Bear returned to Toledo from a triumphal World Tour. His friend, The Count Spikerton von Sweinigus picked him up in Monroe, Michigan and brought him to Toledo for a rousing homecoming. Festivities will start with a parade on Saturday and will continue through the length of his stay. It is not known if Boats will continue his world tour.

Meet Boatswain Bear, Barnacle's nephew.

Boats is a proud member of our nation's Merchant Marine. His ship, the MV Pequod, is wintering over at the old bug-dust docks in Toledo so he has a couple of months of layover 'till the season starts agin.'

One of the deck apes on the Pequod told Boats that the snowbunnies on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe are easy to catch. Boats allowed as he's never eaten one of those before. The ape assured him that most of the chasin's up hill which is good for a bear since his front legs are shorter, or so some say. It's almost impossible to catch snowbunnies going down.

So Boats stowed his gear and set out. He decided that the first thing he would do is go to the Lincoln Park Zoo in the Windy City. The Boat's a big Gary Larson fan and he saw that cartoon about polar bears and penguins. He plans on rentin' a tuxedo and sneaking in to find out if ol' Gary was right. At first look he decided they didn't appear very meaty but you never know until you try.

He figured that the trip out West might hunger him a bit so he thought he might just stop off in Kansas City for some beefs. Puttin' on a couple of layers in KC would give him the energy to hit the mountains.

After that it's a bee line (a little bear lingo there) to Lake Tahoe where the air is crisp and the lake water crystal clear.

So that's his plan but you know bears, they sometimes wander a bit, never get lost, but they do wanter a bit sometimes.

Please take him far and wide. He likes to have his picture included in the travel bug logs. But most of all, he likes to keep moving so please don't leave him in some 5x5 out in Hell's Half Acre. Can't get no snowbunnies that way!
