Cheeky Monkey would like to visit zoos all over the world, and, being the cheeky critter that he is, stick out his tongue at the other monkeys he sees there. He would especially like to visit Scotland, home of “T.V.’s Craig Ferguson”.
Never having been outside of the U.S., it was my husband, who spent 1½ years in Ireland, who first explained to me what “cheeky” meant. For others who don’t know, here’s an “English-to-American” definition:
cheeky (adj)- just short of rude (in the sense of
offensive, not dodgy). You're being cheeky if
you make a joke that you can only just get away
with without getting into trouble.
We also enjoy watching Craig Ferguson, the Scottish late-night talk show host, who is often referred to as “the Cheeky Monkey guy” (just watch his show, and you’ll probably get it). This monkey is actually a dog toy that our little girl found at the store and had fun with (well….we’ve gotten a kick out of it too!) Most of us know that sticking your tongue out at someone is rude, however, if you are in a situation that you would really like to stick your tongue out, but know you shouldn’t, give Cheeky Monkey a squeeze and he’ll take care of it for you - and perhaps make you feel a little better!
