About This Item

Feelin' Lucky

This Lady Luck Geocoin came from the gift exchange grab bag at the "Holiday Coffee House Social and Gift Exchange" GC2JD4V   last night at the Buzz Cafe. Thank you to whomever gave it.
Appropriately, my wife grabbed the gift from the bag. She has also been known as "Lady Luck" on occasion, as she has an impressive history of holding winning raffle tickets. So this is actually her coin, maybe it will help her win the lottery someday.

Visited 12/1/2017 sunnyside7 took it to Hillclimber Wisconsin - 135.03 miles  Visit Log

We came up to Milwaukee along with sunnysidesouth, for the "European Village Alive" event at the Public Museum, and to do a little geocaching.
As we were trying to find our way out of town, this turned out to be a good choice for our "just one more". Cool spot, and the only place all day that we easily found a parking spot. Stepped inside just to take a peek, and pick up a Milwaukee map. It might come in handy on our next visit up here.๐Ÿ˜‰

We came up to Milwaukee along with sunnysidesouth, for the "European Village Alive" event at the Public Museum, and to do a little geocaching.
On our way to Mader's for lunch, I directed our driver to this cache location. Not finding a parking spot, she drove around the block while we took care of business here. Thanks for the GOnG! (get out and grab)๐Ÿ‘

Visited 10/23/2017 sunnyside7 took it to Galena Cannon Crawl Illinois - 1.1 miles  Visit Log

Took the walking bridge to the park and walked directly to GZ, as we did the actual Crawl years ago, but did not find it. We avenged the DNF quickly today, without having to get dirty or down on our knees. Nice to put this fun and educational multi into the win column. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • crossing the river to the cannon park
  • no need to crawl for this multi
  • successful cannon crawl

I'm not fond of these containers, so I asked my spouse to look for this one. I knew she could handle it.๐Ÿ˜‰
She found it, but not until looking in a couple other spots first.
Thanks for taking us here to the 3rd and final "Leap". We enjoyed them all, and it only cost us three favorite points. Saving another one for the resting generals.

Our second "Leap" cache of the day. We actually found it in the second place we looked. When we did find it, we signed it. But it was such a fun cache, we loitered a bit and had a little more fun. Suddenly someone pulls up and stops next to us. We were caught red handed.....by the cache owner himself, and his visiting friend! They were working on Stage 1 of the same cache, but didn't have all the numbers yet.
"Sorry for giving away the cache location. It was a pleasure meeting both of you. Thanks for the really cool cache here, and for the Leap of Faith we had experienced earlier. Maybe we'll see you again at the last "Leap".

This cache was our first stop in Galena today. I encouraged my spouse to walk with me to this one, assuring her she would enjoy it. Boy, did she enjoy it!๐Ÿ˜‰

When I spotted a small part of the cache showing, I moved back and waited untill she got closer. Then I pointed to it and let her retrieve it.๐Ÿ˜ฎ She was a pretty good sport about it. Well, at least she didn't jump over the fence. She's always more relaxed when we're on the road.๐Ÿ˜š But I wouldn't try this at home (very often).๐Ÿ˜‰

  • gardenlady having a pleasant morning walk ....so far
  • then she found this...
  • me: it's just a traditional cache... her: if that's just a traditional cache, I don't want to see a multi!

FINAL-ly! After six years of waiting, we're heading for the castle!๐Ÿ˜Ž We started todays campaign at Kings(Cache)Quest #14. All the other chapters were written in 2011. Are we really about to finish this awesome cache series โ”

There was a very light drizzle on our way along the trail. It did not dampen our spirits, we were on a mission. Soon we got to the edge of the ridge, and stormed the castle. My Gardenlady took out her tablet and snapped some photos. The view was breathtaking. We could see most all of the Kingdom of Daventry and beyond!๐Ÿ‘

Hungry for power, I went out in search of the fabled hidden cache that would grant kingship to the finder.๐Ÿ˜‰ I disappeared into the woods. I wasn't about to return empty handed. I found the cache and triumphantly brought it back to the castle, where we assured our place in history by signing the log book. ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚

Our quest finally completed, we headed for the lodge to partake in a celebratory dinner. We didn't spot any eagles on our way to Eagle Ridge, but we did run into a couple of turkeys on the road.

I have no idea what made me order a turkey and bacon sandwich, we didn't see any pigs on the way๐Ÿ˜‰After the feast we headed for our final destination of the day, Hawk Valley, where we did see several hawks on the way.๐Ÿ˜Ž

  • Meet the new King and Queen... ...of Daventry!! (as luck would have it)
  • Queen Gardenlady I in her spacious castle
  • a view from our deck
  • Huh? I'm the King of Geocaching too? What's the catch?
  • a view in every direction
  • five minutes and I've already made a mess...

I've been looking forward to this day for a long time.

It all started six years ago. we rented a house in Eagle Ridge with other family members. and I spent a good part of two days with my muggle (at the time) brother Don, and one morning with Jeanne too, enjoying this awesome cache series.
On our departure day, while everyone else was packing to leave, I went out solo trying my best to finish the series, though I knew the odds were slim.

The night before, the Texas Rangers were trying to finish off their World Series, against my favorite team (since birth). After watching the Cardinals unbelievable Game 6 victory I was pumped.

By morning I was pretty tired, but still pumped. After a quick breakfast I raced through Chapters 10 to 13 (I think I saw a cardinal at #11). I was challenged at #12, finding my way around the road closure due to the recent flash flooding. The cache was at the place where part of the road was washed away.(Good thing it wasn't on the guard rail). I doubt I'd have made it to the final anyway, but as I was punching in the coordinates for #14 (my Game 6) I got a call from the dugout. My mother-in-law had to leave for home early, and she was in our car. So after the 13th inning I was taken out of the game. The game was postponed indefinitely.

Back home, after watching St Louis win the Series that night, I read Chapter 14 (all the logs) and studied the location. I had taken good notes, and was 99% sure I knew exactly what to do to access the cache. I read it a few more time in the next six years. A couple weeks ago Jeanne and I were considering a one night getaway trip, and see some autumn colors. Since I would not be able to handle the hiking at Starved Rock due to a foot injury, (and because of the unfinished cache series) my suggestion was Galena, and Jeanne agreed to it.
So on the morning of Oct 22 we drove to Eagle Ridge through intermitant rain showers, but by the time we got there the rain had all gone through. I was leary about the condition of the cache/s
But I had taken good notes, and read all the logs. I was almost certain I knew what I had to do to open the container.

We arrived at the locale (a winery) and had a pleasant walk to GZ. We soon spotted the cache, and it was just as I expected. A couple of twists and turns...and the cache was opened. Signed in, secured the cache as we found it, and we were finally on our way to the final, #15,
(or Game 7 of the World Series) metaphorically speaking)

  • got it to open! I'm feelin' pretty lucky
  • that's also how I feel!
  • don't forget to get the coordinates
  • Look, I'm going spelunking! the cache must be in a cave
  • OK, we're signed in!
  • That's one way to keep the grounds clean

A quick stop in Elizabeth on the way to Eagle Ridge. We looked for the cache all over, under and around that sign... twice! Finally the cache caught my eye. I'm lucky it didn't bite me.๐Ÿคญ But all's well that ends well. Now to get back to our safe trip. Thanks for the reminder, and the cache.

Coming from an LPS, I go a tenth of a mile and it's like I'm back in the country. I found five quick caches in this small area that I could have done on foot, even with a messed up foot I'm still recovering from.
ยกViva Geocaching!๐Ÿ™‚ Now onward to Galena!
