Stopped by the Little R&R cache near the Cathedral of the Plains in Victoria, Kansas. This was a two part cache, a physical AND a virtual cache. It wasn't until we got to the virtual part of the cache that we realized it qualified as a graveyard cache, or we could have left him in the cache box. The virtual part of this cache was at a monument in the midst of the graves of six Union Pacific RR Company workers. They were massacred by Cheyenne Indians in October 1867. Graveyard TB was happy to stay with us another day because we had big plans to locate the Jesse James Grave cache.

Retrieve It from a Cache 12/31/2002 dajayhawk retrieved it from Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) Cemetery Kansas   Visit Log

We did not get a chance to get him to one of the remaining graveyard caches in Michigan before the holidays (and we were wary of driving a long distance to one of these caches and then having difficulty locating the cache in the snow) So, we took Graveyard TB with us to Kansas. He visited the GAR Cemetery virtual cache in Cheyenne County (NW Kansas). This cemetery was established in 1889 by the Grand Army of the Republic, a Civil War veterans organization. The west half was to be used for the burial of area citizens. The east half was reserved for GAR members and their families. No lots were sold (only donations taken) in order to afford destitute Civil War veterans with honorable burials.
