About This Item

Hanging with Dave Matthews and My Friend Debbie

This is my personal travel bug. In addition to keeping track of my mileage, I'll use it record an ongoing log of our adventures.

This Bug shares my screenname that I use on various DMB forums. It's play on the song title, "One Sweet World" and my first name. The Dave Matthews Band is my favorite band and I've seen them in concert over 50 times. I've traveled across the country to see them play making it as far as Washington state! I thought it fitting name for my personal TB, as I've been quite the travelbug in my past!

[Warning: The TB logs and photos may contain spoilers.]

If you meet me on a geocache hunt, ask me for the TB tracking number and you can log a find.

Retrieve It from a Cache 7/23/2005 Bear Paughs retrieved it from Marks Heritage New York   Visit Log

Neat little park. Quick and easy once I turned WAAS off. Note to self -- am going to have to go back to I see What You are Saying and try it withOUT WAAS. New type of container that we haven't seen in a cache before. I told Ryder he could have two picks (his and mine) next time we find a cache, since we didn't have anything small enough to leave and Julian was heart set on taking the soccer patch. We left our only item that could fit, some dragonfly chrystal stickers. The boys played for a little while. That is, until there was some roughhousing on the see saw and Ryder got hurt.

The end to a big day (for us anyway -- with kids it's harder to go out for more than 2-3 hours at a time, especially with an impatient dad at home waiting for us.) We wish we could have gotten Rusty Tales, but that will be for another day. We had also planned out Taz Token #1 and Another Blank Page, but ran out of time before we had to go home. Saving those and the return to I See What You Are Saying for another day.

Logging miles on personal TB. This was a nice little spot. I think it is wonderful that someone opened up their property to geocachers. The cache owner did make it clear where we were to stay to make sure we didn't stray onto someone else's personal property. I thanked him in our logs. This was a nice quick little cache, enjoyed by all of team Bear Paughs.

This visit to this cache was beautiful! Our favorite of those visited so far.

I had no idea this beautiful little path was there. We were so busy enjoying the scenery and taking pictures that we walked right past the cache, then decided to continue all the way to the end. On our way back we couldn't get a signal lock for anything. I told the boys that what we should probably do is just look closely at the areas we thought it might be, so I walked over and it was right in the first place I bothered to look. So pretty, I'd love to visit the water isn't so low.

Unfortunately it was the worst time of day for taking pictures. I'd love to come again early in the morning or late in the day to take advantage of the lighting. I think maybe I'll bring Mr. Bear Paugh here so we can enjoy a romantic stroll and I can get some better photos.

Woo Hoo! Found ? FINALLY! I've had no greater sense of satisfaction from finding a cache as this. The silliness beat out the frustration and this might be our favorite cache so far. Definitely the most satisfying find.

Ryder didn't want to come, but Julian, eager as ever, made the trip with me on my lunchbreak. So just Julian and I logged this one. He was all smiles from ear to ear and he can't wait to report back to daddy.

  • And Then Determined It To Be A Decoy.... Okay, so it wasn't exactly a decoy like we thought. Very clever! It took us several trips, reading the forums, and a revelation in a dream to finally figure out where the cache just HAD to be. Ironically we got emailed clues *after* we already figured it out!

Found this cache on our second try. First time there were muggles all over the place so we didn't even attempt it. Nice easy find today, which was just what we needed after Julian and I spent over half an hour looking in vain -- AGAIN -- for ?.

Retrieve It from a Cache 7/18/2005 Bear Paughs retrieved it from TRIBUTE New York   Visit Log

We've been trying to get to this cache because we had been planning on taking Jeep photos here, but it keeps raining on us! It was raining a little bit when we first got here, but it stopped, luckily.

Tribute presented another learning experience for us. This took a while because we didn't know what to look for. We spent too much time looking in the bushes and on the bottoms of benches. We were way off base. We eventually found it and we excited. We thought the container was cool, as was the teeny tiny log book.

After finding Tribute we took some pictures of our WJTB and then headed to Not Another Walk in the Park (for Cody). Unfortunately the access gate was closed, so we couldn't get near the cache. Had planned on dropping WJTB there. The boys enjoyed the walk over the bridge anyway!

Retrieve It from a Cache 7/16/2005 Bear Paughs retrieved it from Magnolia Ridge New York   Visit Log

(Playing catch up on personal TB logs)

First stop of the day was to I See What You Are Saying at this park. I was certain I had the correct coordinates, but we couldn't find it. It was raining a little bit. We looked for about 45 minutes before giving up and going to look for Magnolia Ridge instead.

It was a tough climb to Magnolia Ridge (at least in the rain, while wearing Teva sandals!), but very easy find for us once we got to the general area. It took maybe a minute and a half to locate it. We had a good time with this one.

After coming back down the hill we looked again for I See What You Are Saying for probably another 25 minutes. With the tree cover as it was my GPS had us going in circles. I think I touched ever tree, stick, rock, dead leaf and molecule of dirt in a 60 foot radius, to no avail.

We were wet and sweaty and buggy, and didn't care, we had so much fun!

We took the long way home and drove out to PA to take the picture of the mailbox that we still needed to log Mailboxes, 1 of a kind. It was a fun day, we really enjoyed ourselves!

(Playing catch up on personal TB logs)

We had picked this spot out as a good one to drop the There Yet #2 TB we picked up the other day. We figured we could help it into PA at least. Imagine our surprise when we got there and found a WJTB! Looking over the logs it looks like it was incorrectly logged at first, which is why we weren't expecting to find it. Definitely a happy surprise, as we didn't think we'd ever find one of these.

The one room schoolhouse was really cool. We enjoyed our visit. I had to explain the concept to the boys, who had problems understanding how a school could only be one room.

Ryder traded for a flashlight and you've never seen a happier kid! He carried that thing everywhere! Well, at least until he dropped it on the sidewalk and it broke. 😟

On the way home we saw a cool homemade tractor mailbox to use for a locationless cache. We stopped and I grabbed some pictures. Unfortunately I forgot to read the posting requirements that mandate you have a face shot in the picture, so we'd have to make this trip again.

On the way back we encountered a total downpour. It was hard for me to see the road. Well, that put an end to our caching for the day!

This was our seventh find, and our favorite so far. It was just so creative! (Of course we're new at this and don't know if this has already been done a thousand times, but we thought it was cool.)

We came prepared to trade, picking up special baseball swag just for this one. We left a baseball nightlight, a baseball patch, and a light up world series pin. Julian took his second globe keychain (he carries his first around with him everywhere) and Ryder took a foam baseball.

We also picked up our first travel bug -- There Yet? #2. It startled the boys when they first picked it up and it started speaking, "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we...." We went home and researched to look for a good place to drop the bug to make sure we helped it on its goal.
