About This Item

Hanging with Dave Matthews and My Friend Debbie

This is my personal travel bug. In addition to keeping track of my mileage, I'll use it record an ongoing log of our adventures.

This Bug shares my screenname that I use on various DMB forums. It's play on the song title, "One Sweet World" and my first name. The Dave Matthews Band is my favorite band and I've seen them in concert over 50 times. I've traveled across the country to see them play making it as far as Washington state! I thought it fitting name for my personal TB, as I've been quite the travelbug in my past!

[Warning: The TB logs and photos may contain spoilers.]

If you meet me on a geocache hunt, ask me for the TB tracking number and you can log a find.

Retrieve It from a Cache 8/29/2005 Bear Paughs retrieved it from Ye Olde Golfe Balle Cache(e) New York   Visit Log

We only had about an hour and a half to go caching today before we had to get back home to meet Steve. We started the day at Chenango Point Micro, thinking it would be an easy find -- Wrong! We spent a full hour there and came up empty. I suspect it may be gone, but we'll try again this weekend. I told the boys we'd do a full day caching and return to that spot to have a picnic lunch, which they were very happy about.

With only 1/2 an hour to spare, we had to switch gears and forget the other cache we had planned to visit next. I remembered this cache listing and knew it was one of the closest to our home, so off we went. Very easy find. Spotted it from 15 feet away, which could be due to the path we took in (we always go some strange way and discover an easier path out.) Didn't have golf balls, so didn't trade (which prompted Julian to threaten to run away, sigh...) Lid was off, but otherwise cache was fine. There were a couple crude messages written on the next clean sheets of the log, so I removed them.

Had a few minutes to spare, so grabbed the barber pole virtual cache on our way home that we've been intending to get.

Nice way to spend a spare hour or so. We all had fun, and Julian decided to stay, lol!

Another one to cross off our DNF list. Made the mistake last time of boosting Julian up to look in the hiding spot. This time I reached and stuck my arm in and found it within seconds. Thought it was really cool how the cache was rigged up. This will go on our list of favorite micros for sure!

After this we stopped by Mordor. Didn't understand the clue, and unfortunately Ryder wasn't with us. When Ryder later told us what the clue meant, it dawned on me where the cache must be. Stopped by a day later, but with only ten minutes to look couldn't find it again. We promised Steve we wouldn't try this one again until he could come with us. Hopefully we'll find it then! Anyway, we got some nice pictures.

We loved this cache. It wasn't challenging at all - I don't think we even looked anywhere except where it was placed, but it was a really neat spot and interesting to look at.

Yet another area I didn't know about! I think we'll go back to explore this one when we have more time. The creek beds and everything in this little patch of woods was just so pretty. We always CITO anyway, but it was nice to have a cache with this dedicated purpose just to use it to teach the boys more.

Loved the CITO kits -- great idea. I want to steal this idea and make up something similar for my first cache, and probably to start leaving in some caches as well.

I love that geocachers for the most part are people who see the need to take action and cleanup. It makes these places better for everyone.

We really loved doing this cache. Lots of memories for Shannon, and a nice way to take the Legend C we won in the July Jeep contest for a test run. Loved walking through the woods on our return. Peaceful, and beautiful.

Found part 2 today with Julian. Not as nice an area as part 1, but we still enjoyed it. I like caches like this, where one can learn a little about area history. We found this very interesting, and the boys are still asking Grandma lots of questions about what she remembers from the fire.

This cache finally gave us our chance to drop off WJTB Krystine. I'm relieved that she's on her way. This took us a while to find. Enjoyed the cache, there were some neat items.

Logging personal travel bug miles. This was my second FTF. Saw the new listing late last night and drove over just before it was light out. Encountered another cacher for the first time, when Team Proline asked from above, "Are you looking for the same thing I am?" We looked for awhile and were later joined by snail84.

Finally I was about to give up (as I had to get home for breakfast with Steve and the kids) and found a spot to let my GPS settle while I called Steve to say I'd be home soon, even if I didn't find it. The GPS still didn't take me near the cache, but I finally saw the object that was referenced in the clue and just put the GPS away while I did some hunting. Found it!

This was fun, and great to meet others out doing the same thing. It must have been Team Ferret who was pulling up just as I was pulling out.

Retrieve It from a Cache 8/19/2005 Bear Paughs retrieved it from Fire! New York   Visit Log

Logging miles for part 1 of Fire!, which we completed today. Julian didn't want to leave the car at first, but eventually I convinced him. He especially loved figuring out the answers to the coordinates for me. Hopefully he'll get over his fear of cemetaries. We didn't try for the other cache located here because he would have gotten too upset and I promised we'd leave after doing part 1 of Fire!. Besides, Steve was waiting for us at home and we needed to leave anyway. Ryder and I will do the other, and perhaps we'll convince Juli to join us.

Beautiful cemetary! I loved it! Ryder and I want to go there walking/running sometime instead of the track we usually go to.

Retrieve It from a Cache 8/19/2005 Bear Paughs retrieved it from Which Way EJ? New York   Visit Log

Which Way EJ? drove us a little crazy for the first few minutes. I thought I had checked all around where we did eventually find the cache, but apparently not. There were a lot of freshly cut trees surrounding the memorial and I was afraid the cache may have been dangling from a branch or something, so I spent several minutes inspecting the ground to see if I'd find a hackneyed container. Then gave the actual cache location one more quick once over and spotted it right away. Gheesh!

I never even knew this memorial was there. It's amazing all the little treasures geocaching has brought us, and I don't mean schwag. It's the great hikes, the beautiful scenery, and the little bits of history like this cache that really give the enjoyment. We loved it. Ryder and Julian were fascinated with the statue and asked a million questions about Harry Johnson. I wish I had more answers! We'll probably do some research this weekend to satisfy their curiosity -- and mine!

Overall, this was a wonderful little trip, even for a 1/1 micro. We enjoyed this so much!
