Current Goal

Make it to Pensacola, FL. Obtain a signature of a current Blue Angels pilot or take a photo at their training grounds in Pensacola.
Return to the South Bay Area of San Francisco.

About This Item

Across the Shannon River. Limerick Ireland

In the late 1960's my dad was a Navy Chief in charge of the mechanics for the transport plane that flew with the famed Blue Angels. He has since retired and is now living in the San Francisco Bay area.

While gardening recently, I excavated this diecast Blue Angels toy my now grown boys played with close to 20 years ago. It's a bit worse for wear, but I thought it would make an ideal travel item to honor my Dad's many years of service in the Navy.

We would be delighted to have him travel around so that my Dad can track his antics. Placing the TB near various Navy bases would be very cool. It would also be lovely if this TB could join our fine troops in Iraq. Please take lots of photos and descriptions of your travels so my Dad can enjoy following Blue Angels' journey.

Ultimately, he should pass through Pensacola, FL. A signature from a current Blue Angels pilot would be wonderful. If that's not possible, a photo of the TB in the area would be nice.

Please return the little guy to the San Francisco South Bay. Thanks!

    Dear Streetwalker1,

I am sitting on the dresser, watching CarlottaP and Oaknest pack their bags for a trip. They haven't told me where we're going, but I overheard them talking about taking me to meet some new friends - Thunderbirds, Falcon, Eagle and Warthog. I may also get to visit some of my relatives (from the Hornet side of the family) at the Lemoore Resort and School. I can't wait!

We're leaving tomorrow morning, we'll send pictures along the way. Merry Christmas.

    Your little FA-18,

    BATB

Oaknest and I were in Sacramento and Roseville for the Thanksgiving weekend, and picked up the Blue Angels Travel Bug from Frutcheyclan. Our plan is to take it on a trip for Christmas. We think it'll have a good time.

Found this cool bug in Ian's Cache. Plan to move it as eastward as possible before dropping. Hope it makes it to Florida and back home.

While Brother has enjoyed playing with it, we have all learned so much about our friends and co-workers --- so many have been in the Navy, have a brother who was a Blue Angel, flew helicopters for the Navy, and on and on. Thank you for the stimulus to ask questions. We are sorry that California's Central Valley is so far from any Naval Bases. We will find a cache that is large enough and visited frequently soon. Just wanted you to know it was safe. Best wishes for making it all the way to Florida.

ARRRR! This TB be part of a wonderous cache at Captain's Morgan's booty that we could not resist. Now we see it wants to head east, so we will be sending it on its way as we head inland to our home from this here coastal lands. Many micros in our vicinity, but we will do our best to find a cache that he will fit into, so he can continue on his way.
