MIA is short for Made In America, not Missing In Action. Please move me to another cache so that I can accumulate lots of miles on my odometer.
The recent economic downturn has pushed the American Automotive industry to the brink of extinction. This series of Travel Bugs commemorates a sample of the vehicles produced in the industry’s heyday. Produced from 1964 through 1977, the Chevelle was one of General Motors‘ most successful cars. In 1970, the 396 engine actually displaced 402 cubic inches, but so much advertising has been put into the 396 namesake that GM didn’t want to change it. Also available was a 454 cubic inch V8 rated at 450 horsepower. It produced more power than any other stock production engine offered by any manufacturer. 53,599 Chevelles were assembled in ten plants in the United States and Canada. The Malibu, at first the top trim level in the Chevelle line, replaced the Chevelle name entirely after 1977.
