Castle of Hülchrath - Pics now, details follow...(because we have some problems with translating the complicated history 🤭)
03-02-2005: The exact age of "Schloß Hülchrath" is unknown. The first known owner-family died out in 12th century. In 1314 archbishop "Heinrich von Virneburg" from Cologne payed 30.000 Gulden for castle and county. The castle was destroyed for the first time in 1499, not very long after reconstruction it was heavily damaged again in 1583 in the "Truchsessischer Krieg", once more in the "Dreißigjähriger Krieg". In 1688 the walls were demolished by the french occupying forces, in 1798 France sold it to a private owner. Today it's used as a restaurant and dwelling house. Sometimes there are cultural festivals and medieval markets on the terrain.
