Dawg and her team drove all the way from San Diego to attend a funeral near this cache today. It took about three hours to get there and four hours to get back. Luckily there was some fun just before the funeral. Dawg had met a family out in the desert in February. She liked them, and they were close to the cemetery so she visited them just before the funeral. In fact, the dad helped Dawg's dad write the eulogy while Dawg and her family ate lunch. The family loaned Dawg's mom an umbrella so she could keep out of the sun at the grave. They also let us use their bedroom to change into and out of the funeral clothes. The funeral was short...always a good thing. The military part of the funeral was amazing and touching at the same time. The coffin was draped in a US flag. The flag was folded as a lone bugler played Taps. Eventually the folded flag was presented to Dawg's grandmother who accepted it with tears in her eyes. Dawg's dad's delivery of the eulogy was perfect! He remembered everything that was written (and only finished four minutes before the funeral was supposed to start!) just .5 hour before. The religious dude read his stuff quickly. Outta there in about 30 minutes. Meanwhile Dawg enjoyed her pile of cookies that she had been working on for a couple of weeks. She finally figured out how to get into that bag!

The first time Dawg and her team went to find this cache is when we found out that dogs aren't allowed in this park. Next we drove to within about 235 feet of the cache but by then Dawg's dad was really irritated and refused to help look for the cache and didn't want Dawg's mom going alone. Seriously, who hikes without their dawg? We don't. Must have been some stupid humans that didn't either clean up after their dawg, or let them chase the wildlife, or all the 10^6 other stupid things humans do to get dawgz banned from places. That upset Dawg's dad even more. So we went to the beach...no dawgz allowed their either. WTF? The second time we went for the cache, Dawg and her sister stayed in the car with the air conditioning running while her humans went to find the cache. It was prolly a cool hike up there from the bottom....prolly would have loved the hike. The view looked cool except it was so typical CA....tons of people at the beach and tons of slow moving traffic. The view was prolly a lot better 50 years ago. We didn't really feel like we missed anything by parking so close to the cache. Dawg liked hanging out in the car because she always gets a cookie when her humans return. Glad to get this dawg-UNFRIENDLY cache off our list.

It was a cool, overcast day in downtown San Diego so Dawg and her family decided to go for a short hike to find this cache. After about five minutes of driving north, the sun came out a bit. Another five minutes and the sun was out in full force. Luckily it was still early so it was still a bit cool. About .5 mile into the hike, it began to get warm. About another mile up the trail and it was toasty. Dawg's mom was sent to find the cache while the rest of the team waited in the shade. On the way back, a stop a the waterfalls was very refreshing and fun for Dawg. Another stop at Sycamore crossing for a quick splash of water before heading up the hill and more sniffing for Dawg and her sister. Arrived back in downtown San Diego and it was overcast and cool! We weren't expecting a five mile RT hike but it was fun all the same.

Dawg's day started out so sad for her. She could see that her humans were going for a bike ride and she wasn't invited. She worked hard on her humans to take her but she was left at home anyway. Luckily they only did the 26 mile ride to Cabrillo National Monument and back. Things brightened for Dawg when her humans returned home....lunch then the promised hike! What could be better than food and hiking? Dawg was carried up the steep part of the trail. She walked along the contour part of the trail in a bit of shade. She was enjoying her sniffing when all of a sudden she put on the breaks and made the whole team stop. She pointed to a geocache. At first nobody believe her. Sure enough, there was a cache! We signed that log and continued along the trail. The path to this cache was kinda overgrown. The dawgz were carried and their eyes were covered at the appropriate times to avoid sticks from poking them. Dawg sniffed around while the log book was being signed. The trip back to the car was fun for Dawg as well. Just before going down the steep part of the trail, we got to watch a guy launch his kite. It looked like so much fun!
