This travel bug and I have spent entirely too much time together. I initially grabbed it shortly before heading to New York for Thanksgiving last year. The travel bug rode the New York Subway to work at Barclays with my daughter. After that the intent was to place it in a cache in NYC. Well unfortunately none of the caches I found on that trip were suitable; they all ended up being too small. As I left New York I placed the Bug in my work backpack where it slipped to the bottom and evidentially fell asleep. With Christmas and all I am embarrassed to say I forgot about the poor fellow.
Sometime in the early spring the Bug Owner contacted me and I confessed I had it still. I knew where to find the little devil so right away I woke it up, placed it on my desk, and assured the Bug I would move it along. I have continued to break all rules with this little fellow. I’d grab the bug and we’d go geocaching only to find nanos. When I would return home I would place the bug in its place of honor on my desk so I would not forget it. Yes, I have occasionally dipped him and there was that round trip to New York City and back vie the Washington METRO Subway and the Bolt Bus (an inner city discount fare bus). But I have neglected my duties to get the Going Underground Bug back traveling.
We have had a good time together. On day while out caching the center emblem of the Bug jumped out of me pocket while we were searching for a new cache. It wasn’t until several hours later that I noticed, so there I was during a freezing winter night walking alone a highway looking for a small disk. I was lucky to find and dreaming of all sorts of ways to disguise the loss. There were other adventures and road trips but too numerous to log. The bottom line is departing is such sweet sorrow and with tears of joy I bid so long to the beautiful Going Underground Bug.
