About This Item

The Tax Man

First produced in 1935, sales tax tokens were used to make change for sales tax paid. Washington State was one of only 12 states to employ this practice. After a few years, both retailers and the public found their use to be too much trouble, and they were discontinued.

I found this in I-40 Rest Stop-East, Burlington on our way from Hanging Rock. Very interesting, never seen it, great history lesson. Brought it home with me to find a cache to meet one of the goals here in Raleigh. :) Will move it along soon!
