Current Goal

Remains mostly in the hands of Lord Thor.  However, from time to time he will make a road trip with a few selected cachers before being return to home base.

This TB is To travel to caches that are cleverly hidden or are of a container type that's a bit different from the norm. Please post any stories along the way. A cacher that is local to the Florence area is becoming known for hides that are a bit more of a challenge than the normal hide. This TB is dedicated to his hides. It was used to recount the events of a particular seach for one of Bubbyearl's hide as detailed below. My caching wife and several others enjoyed a good laugh as this adventure was re-enacted.

About This Item

Early one Sunday morning, the phone rang and it was one of our local cachers asking for help. He was at a cache site but was having trouble finding a just posted cache. He was wondering if I was planning on going out to find the cache. I hadn't yet looked at the listing so I told him I'd look and call him back after breakfast. About an hour later I had looked at the listing so I called back to let him know I was going to go look. Turns out he was still there and there was another cacher on the way to help. All three of us started looking while keeping in mind the types of hides that Bubbyearl was known for. We searched everything that could possibly be a cache but had no luck. Finally, we started to glance into the nearby creek and a ray of sunlight just happened to break through the tree cover at that moment and we saw something in the water that didn't look right. The water was about 5 feet below us andthere was no visible means of retrieving the cache. As it was one of the first cold days of the fall we ruled out dipping into the water. We found several sticks and tried to pull the object toward the bank but had little luck. One of us by chance had a ladder in the truck so we grabbed it and leaned it on the bank and into the water. One of us went down while the other two were holding the ladder and giving instructions on where to poke and drag. We got the cache close to the ladder but was unable to get it out of the water since it looked like the ladder was holding it down. We secured the cache and pulled the ladder out and another of us slide head first down the bank to try and free the cache. The two of us on the bank were holding the third cacher by the feet as all his quarters were falling out of his pockets and into the water. He was able to get the cache up just enough to unclip it. He handed it up to us and while one of us still held on to him, the other signed the log for the three of us. He re-attached the clip and slipped the cache back in the water. We dragged him up the bank and after he brushed himself off, we enjoyed a good laugh. We took the ladder and our now a bit dirty and a bit wet selves back to the area we parked and discussed how three grown men had just spent more than 2 hours locating and retrieving a cache. We then noticed an SUV turning in and saw that it was another cacher coming for the find. We told him it was good that he had gotten there while we were still available since we didn't think he could get it alone. He had his doubts that we were telling him the truth. We followed him to the site and let him wander around. After 20 minutes or so he said "Since this is a Bubbyearl hide, I bet it's in the water". So after a few minutes, we confirmed that he was seeing the cache. He couldn't figure out how to get to it so the ladder man went to get the ladder. The fourth cacher again though we were pulling his leg when we said he needed a ladder. So after repeating the process again, the fourth cacher of the day was able to log the find.
