Visited 6/24/2013 sunnyside7 took it to Klondike Pack 980 Missouri - 17.59 miles  Visit Log

We were here only 36 hours ago, just over the hill, for a family wedding and reception. I felt too busy and too nicely dressed to run over here then, but this morning Jeanne and I stopped by on our way to Washington to find the cache. Thanks Pack 90, it was a pleasure. We're staying in O'Fallon this week, the town where I grew up. Yes, it was just a little town back then.

  • Deja Vu... I feel like I've been here before
  • this won't take long, will it?
  • it was in the first place I looked
  • still time for some sightseeing... and photography
  • It's beautiful...
  • ...no matter which way you look at it
  • OK, I'm coming
  • Flashback... 36 hours ago... there was a wedding here
  • ...and Elvis was here
  • there was dancing...
  • and feasting...
  • and hiking...
  • and climbing?
  • and posing
Visited 6/22/2013 sunnyside7 took it to Remember Missouri - 4.52 miles  Visit Log

I DNFd this on my last two visits to O'Fallon, but had no trouble today. Remembering the hint made the difference.
Took some photos of the memorial and reminisced a bit. I went to school over there when it was St Mary's College. I used to play tennis very near to this very spot.

  • very nice little container
  • 911 Memorial
  • all the names.... all the names
  • more names... I squeezed mine in
Visited 6/21/2013 sunnyside7 took it to Short Cut? Missouri - 263.73 miles  Visit Log

First time taking the short cut on our way to O'Fallon. Much easier coming in the back door.

  • nice short cut
Visited 6/8/2013 sunnyside7 took it to Explorers Wanted! Illinois - 13.57 miles  Visit Log

Jeanne & I took our two youngest explorers, nobes and BunnyB, to this event at the Adler Planetarium. It started at 8:30 AM and lasted one hour, at which time the museum opened to the public. The event was very nice. There was juice and muffins for those of us that had left home without any breakfast. We got to spin a wheel and answer questions from different "space" categories. Our prizes included a geopin, travel tag, and several buttons. At 9:30 we went to the next room and spent lots of time in Planet Explorers, which the kids did not want to leave. When we finally did, we spent another hour in the downstairs exhibits. Before a picnic lunch outside, we first took time to find one of the planet caches (Venus) placed just for the event.

  • Space quiz...think, think Moderator: "Who is Adler Planetarium named after?"
Nobes: "Is this a trick question?"
  • This place is "out of this world"
  • Blast off!
  • mapping a new planet
  • gonna be a long trip
  • "We're there...Planet X"
  • ready to explore
  • driving the "X Mover"
  • ready to go back to earth
  • That was fun
  • Planet Explorers
  • American hero
  • What planet (cache) should we find?
  • how about Venus?
  • everyone log in
  • Lunchtime
  • "Do I have my choice?"
Visited 5/15/2013 sunnyside7 took it to Sally Sells Sea Shells, but where's her store? Illinois - 3.47 miles  Visit Log

It is so gratifying to solve an hmarq puzzle like this, go out without any verification from Geocheck, and then find the cache right where you figured it to be. I parked, got out, and went straight to the cache,😁 (not exactly straight, I skirted around some denser areas of growth on the way.) But when I got to the cache I recognized it immediately, and was reading 20 feet. It wasn't until I opened the logbook that I realized... I don't have a pen!😮 I was pretty sure I had one in the car, but no way was I going there and back again. And since I didn't do any bleeding on the way in here, I just picked up an adequate "writing stick" and signed in with a little mud. Met Sally (Sunrise), who verified my signature. 😉 TTF at 8:00 AM. TFTC. Looking forward to the next one.

  • Oops! I didn't notice this until I saw the photo. That should be a 15, not a 14. How did I ever find the cache? I don't even know what day it is. Why didn't Sally correct me?
I guess now my name is mud.
  • still...a sweet find a smiley is a smiley
  • at least I got the month right... good thing I noticed the May Apples
Visited 5/6/2013 sunnyside7 took it to April 8 Illinois - .6 miles  Visit Log

9th of 11 cemetery/calendar caches found this morning. I drove over the bridge from Waldheim to get here. Found the cache quickly, but only after discovering a robins nest with four eggs in it just inches away. (I hadn't read the recent logs.) As I logged the cache I saw the momma bird keeping her distance and watching me as I circled around trying to coax her to go back to the nest. Hard as I tried, I saw that the bird was not going back to the nest until I left the area completely. Might be a good idea to move this one farther away until the birds leave the nest.

  • much too close for comfort
  • momma bird waits... for me to leave
  • found all this lying on the ground... near this headstone
  • I set everything back up... for you, Mom
  • ...and for Merline

Visited 5/6/2013 sunnyside7 took it to April 2 Illinois - 177.72 miles  Visit Log

The cache may be named April 2nd, but today is May 6th. Mom would have been 92 today. After a blood test in Oak Park this morning, I came here to Concordia Cemetery to find six caches. I saved this closest one to the entrance to be the sixth. It was a very nice hide. I said some prayers for her near the chapel where I was parked, and then headed for Waldheim and Forest Home to find five more, in recognition of May, the fifth month.

  • nice cemetery hide
  • prayers offered for Mom
  • double entendre

Visited 4/6/2013 sunnyside7 took it to MOGA 2013 Illinois - 173.16 miles  Visit Log

First MegaEvent for all six of the people in our group. Fred & Rita shared their house in Findlay with Jeanne and I, while Don & Donna came up from the St Louis area with their trailer and stayed at Lithia Springs. I think they would all agree that it was a fun, exciting, and pleasant experience. We met so many nice people along the trails and around town, and ran into several I know from back home around Chicago. The area around this lake is beautiful, and I wish the event could last a week. MOGA staff and Corps of Engineers did a great job in putting all of it together. Thanks to all involved.

  • On the road to MOGA Sat AM
  • are we having fun yet?
  • actually yes... chasing dragons is more fun than I imagined
  • logging in at the round table

Visited 3/13/2013 sunnyside7 took it to Strong is the Force in this child! Illinois - 38.64 miles  Visit Log

I refrained from running over here for the FTF yesterday, thinking that might be meant for the new cacher. This morning, after Jeanne and I went to see BunnyB perform in a play at school, we stopped by here. She provided me with just enough of the extra force I needed to be able to grab this fun cache. Baby Yoda, you'll have fun fetching this one. Hope to see you out on the trails one of these days.

  • thanks for the boost
  • just give me a minute
  • found the guy we're looking for
