This trackable has reached its original goal to travel to the birthplace of the artist Max Beckmann – Leipzig, Saxony in Germany or to travel that distance 4062miles / 6537 km!
Its NEW mission is to make its way back home to the McMaster Museum of Art in Hamilton, Ontario Canada.
Max Beckmann (1884-1950) was a German painter, draftsman, printmaker, sculptor and writer. In his work, Beckmann combined portraiture, landscape, still life and mythology; his inspiration coming from the work of Van Gogh, Rubens, Rembrandt and Northern European artists of the Middle Ages and the early Renaissance.
After serving as a medic in World War I, Beckmann’s style changed dramatically to depict distortion of both figure and space; reflecting his altered view of humanity. The artwork created during the war was heavily influenced by the Expressionists. In the 1920s Beckmann was associated with the group Neue Sachlichkeit or “New Objectivity.”
There are 31 Beckmann prints in the collection at the McMaster Museum of Art in Hamilton, Ontario including works from his series Gesichter / Faces and Six Lithographs from the New Testament.
