Dropped off at 'Kismet Hardy' (GCGGB1) near Dorchester, the county town of Dorset. Accompanying photos are of the two Thomas Hardy's of local fame. The Statue being of the writer/poet who was born near Dorchester and later lived in the town.
The monument, on the Blackdown Hills, was erected in 1844 in honour of Vice-Admiral Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy who was flag officer aboard HMS Victory at Trafalgar, and to whom it is said, Nelson uttered those immortal
words “England is safe” and “Kiss me Hardy”. There are those that claim a more logical version of “Kismet Hardy” (Thus my cache of that name) He lived from age 9, when not at sea, in the village of Portesham in the dale below the hills.
