Ještěd nejvyšší hora Ještědského hřbetu (1012 m.n.m.). Odedávna je považován za jednu z hlavních dominant severních Čech a za symbol města Liberec, rozprostírajícího se pod ním. 
V roce 1737 byl poprvé na vrcholovém skalisku vztyčen kříž, první z řady křížů na Ještědu. Již roku 1847 byl na vrcholu této hory postaven domek, který sloužil jako občerstvovací stanice. Roku 1868 byl domek nahrazen kamennou chatou, vedle které v roce 1876 vyrostla 5 m vysoká vyhlídková věž. Ta však musela být záhy stržena. Stále větší nápor návštěvníků vedl k vybudování nové mohutné kamenné budovy s 23 metry vysokou věží, uzpůsobenou jako rozhledna. Slavnostní otevření této nové dominanty Ještědu se konalo 13. ledna 1907. Tato jedinečná stavba s bohatou historií bohužel ukončila svůj provoz tragicky, požárem 31. 1. 1963. Již po dvou letech byla zahájena stavba nové moderní budovy s věží vysokou 90 m podle návrhu architekta Karla Hubáčka. V roce 1969 za ní získal mimořádně prestižní Perretovu cenu Mezinárodní unie architektů. 
Z vrcholu hory Ještěd se otvírá neomezený pohled na všechny světové strany. Její tvar i kultivovaný technicismus jedinečně reaguje na krajinný kontext, na kuželovitý vrchol hory, jemuž dodává elegantní aerodynamickou špičku.

Ještěd Ještědský highest mountain ridge (1012 m). Since ancient times, is considered one of the major landmarks of northern Bohemia and a symbol of the city of Liberec, spread beneath him.
In 1737 it was first erected on the summit rock cross first in a series of crosses on the top. Already in 1847 he was at the top of this mountain built house, which served as a refreshment station. In 1868 the house was replaced by a stone cottage, beside which in 1876 grew 5 m high observation tower. It had to be torn down soon. The increasing flow of visitors led to the construction of a new massive stone building with 23 meters high tower, designed as a lookout. Inauguration of the new dominant Ještěd was held on January 13, 1907. This unique building with a rich history, unfortunately, tragically ended its operations, fire 31. 1. 1963. For two years after construction began on a new modern building with a tower 90 m high, designed by architect Karel Hubacek. In 1969 it was awarded for exceptionally prestigious Perret Prize of the International Union of Architects.
From the top JeštědMountain opens unrestricted view in all directions. Its shape and refined technicismus uniquely responds to the landscape context, the conical peak of the mountain, which adds an elegant aerodynamic tip.
